You’ll prepare design drawings and specifications for submission to clients, as well as provide jurisdictional plan checks and permitting support. Engineered systems you’ll be working with include plumbing systems, HVAC package systems, central plants, air distribution, hydronic systems, and associated controls.

• Prepare calculations for plumbing systems, including water and drainage flows, water heater sizing, and pump sizing and selection.

• Perform calculations for design, such as air loads, pipe/duct/equipment sizing, ventilation requirements, static pressure, odor removal, life-cycle costs, and energy analyses.

• Work independently and make technical mechanical decisions based on building code interpretation and company standard practice.

• Select equipment, coordinate with equipment vendors, and edit specifications.

• Conduct field evaluations and develop as-built drawings.

• Develop master plans and perform field investigations.

• Manage and coordinate work with architects, technicians, and engineers of other disciplines.

• Attend meetings and communicate with clients, vendors, and other project stakeholders to establish project needs and discuss design issues.

• Demonstrate creativity, foresight and mature judgment in anticipating and solving both routine and unusual project delivery, technical and client challenges, determining

• Determine technical objectives and requirements, organize programs and projects, and develop standards and guides for technical activities and applications.

Here's what you'll need

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (BSME) from an ABET accredited institution is preferred, but consideration will be given to candidates with degrees in other fields of engineering.

• 5+ years producing plumbing, HVAC, and fire protection design drawings and specifications for construction. Less experience in any one of these disciplines is not considered cause for disqualification. However, you will be required to work in all stated disciplines. Experience with odor control systems would be considered an asset.

• P.Eng., or ability to obtain immediately upon hire.

• Working knowledge of applicable building codes and standards such as ASHRAE, NFPA, SMACNA, local Provincial and National Building Codes (including relevant energy codes, plumbing codes, and fire codes,) etc.

• Physically able to climb ladders and enter utility manholes, tunnels, and other mechanical equipment spaces.

• Valid Driver's License in your province of residence.

• Good writing skills and experience preparing technical specifications and reports.

• Willingness to learn new skills and practices as needed.
