One of our Government clients is looking for a Senior Database Administrator

Job Description

Responsibilities

Creates physical database designs and operates and administers the database management system (DBMS) including database optimization, capacity planning, installation and migration, database design, performance tuning, backup and recovery. General Skills Experience with one or more operating systems Experience with one or more database technologies Experience in one or more programming languages Experience in the use of information retrieval packages and proficiency with query languages Experience in monitoring and enforcing database rules Experience in Incident, Change and Configuration Management procedures Experience with one or more communications protocols Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills; verbal and written communication skills; and interpersonal skills A team player with a track record for meeting deadlines Desirable Skills Experience with distributed data systems Experience with middleware and gateways Experience with researching and implementing cyber security vulnerability remediations Awareness of emerging IT trends and directions Experience with Computer Aided Software Engineering (CASE) tools Knowledge and understanding of Information Management principles, concepts, policies and practices Experience in Database Administration, Maintenance Optimization

Must Haves :

  • Proven experience in managing, upgrading, and maintaining SQL Server databases, including patching, backup, and recovery processes.
  • Strong skills in identifying and resolving database performance issues, implementing optimization techniques, and setting up proactive alerting and monitoring tools to ensure high availability and stability.
  • In-depth knowledge of database security best practices, including regular patching, access control

Selection Criteria

Technical Knowledge and experience - 50%

  • Proven experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator with expertise in managing SQL Server environments (versions 2012 and above).
  • Extensive experience in database upgrades, patching, backup, and recovery processes.
  • Strong understanding of database security concepts, including access control, encryption, and compliance standards.
  • Hands-on experience with performance tuning, troubleshooting, and high-availability solutions (e.g., Always On, clustering, replication).
  • Proficiency in developing database roadmaps and implementing best practices for database management.
  • Methodology, testing, and troubleshooting - 30%

  • Experience in creating and implementing structured processes for patching, testing, and verifying upgrades and restorations.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct end-to-end testing of backup and recovery plans.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills to identify root causes of database issues and resolve them efficiently.
  • Knowledge of agile methodologies or structured project delivery frameworks.
  • Planning, documentation, and communication - 20%

  • Strong ability to develop and document database processes, including upgrade paths, patching strategies, and backup / recovery procedures.
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills to provide status updates and knowledge transfer to internal teams.
  • Experience in collaborating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to ensure alignment and delivery of project goals.
  • Ability to provide clear and concise technical documentation to support ongoing maintenance and operational needs.
