Job description

Responsibilities

Design and Project Coordination

Assist project managers and engineers in the functional and detailed design of bridges, culverts and other transportation structures.
Assist project managers and engineers in the design and construction of industrial and / or building projects.
Prepare documents including construction drawings, contract specifications, calculations, and quantity take off estimates.
Liaise with multidisciplinary team members including engineers, planners, architects and technical and administrative support staff.
Perform field work for structural assessments, periodic site inspections during construction, construction observation, as well as preparation of follow up reporting.
Review and respond to shop drawings and submittals during construction activities

Business Development

Provide quality client services, with particular emphasis on government and infrastructure contractor clients within the transportation market

Contribute to business development activities, including proposal preparation (initiation and submission), reports and presentations, and client liaison.

Business travel upon request

Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees.

Qualifications

A degree in civil engineering. Graduate level degree would be an asset

Licensed to practice as a structural engineer

Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in bridge design

Experience

Proficient in the full range of design activities, including preparation of preliminary and detail design drawings and reports, contract document preparation and tendering

Experienced in the design of various bridge types, culverts and other transportation structures

Proficiency in the use of computer modeling techniques using SAP2000, CSiBridge, or STAAD and familiarity with current AutoCAD software

Strong organizational and interpersonal skills along with both verbal and written communication

Proficient technical report and specification writing skills

Experience in construction contract administration would be an asset

Experience with bridge maintenance and rehabilitation is an asset

Experience with projects delivered for the City of Calgary and Alberta Transportation is an asset
