The Opportunity
We areseekinga highly skilled, detail-oriented, and collaborative professional for the role ofFinancial Controller. Reporting to theSeniorDirector of Finance, HR, and IT,this senior finance role provides strategic and operational leadership for the organizationsfinancial managementand reporting functions.
The Financial Controller manages and optimizesfinancial systems to ensure accuracy, integrity, and integration across the organization. The role oversees financial reporting, project and grant accounting,budgetingand forecasting, and ensures compliance with funding agreements and organizational policies, supporting sound decision-making and long-term financial sustainability.
Role and Responsibilities
1. Financial Reporting and Data Management
- Use Sage 300s financial reporting tools to develop customized reports and
dashboards that provide insights into program performance, budgets, and
funding compliance - Prepareaccurateandtimelyfinancial reports, dashboards, and reconciliations
- Analyze financial data,monitorcash flow, and ensure alignment with budgets
and funding requirements
2. Project Accounting and Budgeting
- Track income, expenses, and budgets for projects and grants to ensure
compliance - Reconcile financial transactions, review expenditures, and prepare audit-ready
documentation - Support program teams with cash flow analysis and standardized financial
management processes - Assistin preparing budgets, forecasts, and multi-year financial plans
- Monitor program budgets, perform variance analysis, and provide insights for decision-making
3. Operational and Audit Support
- Monitor project financial systems in Sage 300 for accuracy and compliance.
- Support payroll allocations and updates (e.g., wage maps)
- Assistin year-end audit processesandfinalizingthe accountsby preparing required documents andmaterial
4. Policy and Compliance
- Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and contribution agreements
- Develop and improve financial controls, systems, and policies toenhanceaccuracy and efficiency
Qualifications and Experience
- Qualified candidates will be given consideration, along with individualspossessinga blend of education and practical experience in financial planning and analysis, accounting, budgeting, or related financial functions, gained over multiple years
- In-depth knowledge of Canadian accounting principles, standards,lawsand regulations isrequired. Knowledge of Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations (ASNPO) would be an asset
- Proficiencyin project budgeting and management is necessary
- Experience in financial statement preparation and stakeholder reporting
- Proficient inutilizingMicrosoft Office suite withexpertisein data management for financial reporting through Excel and accounting platforms such as SAGE 300
- Advanced Knowledge of Finance and Project Management
- Strong communicationskills, adept at conveying complex financial concepts to stakeholders at various levels of financial acumen
- Collaboration skills with all staffing levels and external funders, organizational and time management skills arerequired
Conditions of Employment
- Flexibility to work outside of standard core hours (Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm)
- Satisfactory Certificate of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary
- Valid class 5 NL drivers license and daily access to apersonalvehicleisrequired
