Your role :

Joining our Scene Maker team, this is a pivotal opportunity for a Senior Engineer to focus on providing a complete but concise description of the world around an autonomous vehicle.

Our team is part of the Localisation & Mapping stream which is responsible for generating a semantic understanding of the vehicle's local environment to allow for sound decision making.

The Scene Maker team fuses data from both offline information from maps and online information from localisation, object detection / tracking and semantic classifications.

Your responsibilities :

Development

  • Designing, developing and delivering semantic understanding software, systems, products and tooling.
  • Discussions with the team on high level design decisions for various parts of our local scene building stack.
  • Prototyping or implementing and testing algorithms for improving our semantic understanding systems.
  • Working cross-functionally to coordinate with other teams to deliver new features.
  • Working with data from multiple sources (static and dynamic) and the synchronisation of that data.
  • Developing and testing our local scene API which is used by multiple other systems.
  • Performance analysis and optimisation of software to meet required real time constraints.

Leadership

  • Providing technical direction and advice for other members of the Scene Maker team.
  • Liaising with leaders throughout the company to understand the overall drive, direction and technical needs of the company, and how that impacts and steers our team.

Communication

  • You will be encouraged to share your ideas with the team and the wider business.
  • You will interact with other teams to learn about the autonomy system and gain exposure to all aspects of the business.

Requirements

What you need to succeed :

  • Demonstrated experience and excellence in algorithms development for robotics especially for semantic understanding and mapping.
  • Demonstrated excellence in software development for production systems. For example using testing, safety, and performance to inform design and implementation decisions.
  • Software development experience and knowledge of C++11 / 14 / 17.
  • Working knowledge of Python (Numpy, Scipy, Jupyter Notebooks, etc).
  • A measured, scientific approach to building complex engineering systems

Extra kudos if you have :

  • The ability to understand and debug complex system interactions across a large codebase.
  • Work collaboratively across multi-disciplinary teams.
  • A PhD or Master’s degree in engineering or computer science.
  • Experience working with and analysing map data (road networks, infrastructure etc.) particularly formats such as OpenDRIVE

Our Senior Engineer joining the Scenemaker team could have a previous career within any of the below :

  • Software Engineer working within an AV mapping organisation.
  • Master / PhD background with expertise in mobile robotics.
  • Software Engineer with experience working on production systems.
  • Software Engineer with experience deploying algorithms to real time production systems.
