Job Description
Reporting to the Assistant Vice-President of Brand and Marketing Services within the Customer Experience Office, the Linguistic Services Director leads a team of over thirty professionals. Linguistic Services supports all of Sun Life Canada’s business sectors and some corporate functions. The incumbent plays a key role in supporting the francization of operations and major projects to achieve the company’s strategies.
What will you do?
- Develop the department’s strategic direction to meet the company’s translation and francization needs.
- Set Linguistic Services objectives to support corporate strategies.
- Plan and manage the department’s service budget effectively. Ensure costs are fairly distributed among the various business units based on the work performed.
- Manage external supplier relations and training. Ensure the quality and conformity of services rendered.
- Keep abreast of and test technological tools to improve work methods as needed.
- Manage and supervise a team of six managers and two revisers.
- Evaluate the performance of direct reports and oversee the entire evaluation process to ensure fairness for all Linguistic Services staff, from performance appraisal to salary planning.
- Manage change and drive continuous improvement in work methods and service delivery. To this end, the incumbent must be an active listener and show empathy toward their staff.
- Provide advice to partners when planning major projects.
- Establish a culture based on clear and inclusive language, with a tone that respects the brand’s guidelines.
- Put in place the resources to carry out special and confidential assignments from senior management. Make any necessary adjustments during assignments to ensure their success.
What do you need to succeed?
At least 5 years of experience managing a translation department and in budgetary and strategic planning3 to 5 years of experience in supervising and training staffBilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada and worldwide.Knowledge of the translation operational environment and the evolution of the language industryGood writing skills with proven experience in editing and proofreading French textsUniversity degree in translation; program / course in administration (an asset)Knowledge of translation tools and workflow management systemsCuriosity about new technologies to increase the efficiency and productivity of our resourcesCapable collaborator that knows how to build strong relationships with various stakeholdersAbility to solve difficult or complex problems with diplomacy and tactPrioritizes customer relationsAbility to be a positive and resilient leaderWhat's in it for you?
