Postdoctoral Fellow in the Physics of Aging

Job Summary & Key Responsibilities

The Physics of Aging project is a collaboration between investigators in Geriatric Medicine and Physics and Atmospheric Science. We study aging, with an overarching goal to characterize and improve individual health prognosis. With increasingly good data, more detailed quantitative approaches are possible. Our focus is on the dynamics of health and how it changes with age both for individuals and for populations. How can we affect these changes? How can we predict them? What is the best quantitative measure of them, in light of available individual health records?

We invite applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow in the physics of aging, based at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia (Canada). The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary collaboration between Professor Kenneth Rockwood (Geriatric Medicine) and Professor Andrew Rutenberg (Physics) to develop and analyze dynamical models and quantitative measures of health using primary care and emergency care data. Key responsibilities of this position include :

• Design and implement computational and statistical approaches to quantify health trajectories and system dynamics from clinical datasets (primary care and emergency care).
• Contribute to model development, validation, and interpretation.
• Collaborate with faculty and clinical partners; present findings, prepare manuscripts, and assist with grant applications as appropriate.
• Participate in research meetings, seminars, and professional development opportunities at Dalhousie.
• Apply for fellowship funding.
• Contribute to other ongoing research projects focused on frailty and aging.
