Job Information

As the Clinical Coordinator, Psychiatry (CC) you will be responsible for coordinating care and services and ensuring the quality of care within the Psychiatry Unit, including providing clinical leadership, education and support to all staff. You will work with nursing staff and in consultation with the Manager, Psychiatrists and staff to implement patient treatment planning, and patient & family programming in the unit. You will ensure the appropriate transition of patients back to the community through communication, planning, and coordination with the Regions (including but not limited to Community Health Centers, Social Programs), non-government organizations, and other stakeholders. You will provide clinical supervision, mentorship, support, education and guidance to nurses in the provision of patient care. As an educator, resource and mentor, you will help guide nurses from task orientation to more empowered analytical thinking and care giving approaches.

You will ensure that the physical, emotional, psycho-social, cultural, spiritual, educational and day to day living needs are met, and you will lead the evaluation of patient experience for the unit. You may be required to assist in the treatment of psychiatrically unstable patients who may be violent or agitated, and you will have a key role in the management of Code / Emergency situations. You are expected to remain calm, controlled and professional in all situations and demonstrate compassionate care to the client, family and other members of the health care team.

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by :

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and a minimum of five (5) years of recent clinical experience within Psychiatry. Experience in a clinical education, supervisory or management role would be an asset.

Additional Requirements

  • Proof of immunization in keeping with current public health practices is required.
  • Registration with the College and Association of Nurses of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut (CANNN) prior to commencement of employment.
