Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer, Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) or designate, the Collaborative Leader, Education and Special Projects provides expert advice, consultation, and assistance to programs and departments across the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) on projects and initiatives designed to support a quality practice environment and excellence in learning & education, including developing a PHSA Education plan and supporting the transition to clinical information systems. In this unique role, the incumbent collaborates with a wide variety of people inside and outside the Health Authority, including educators, operational, clinical and professional discipline leaders to : promote standardization, develop, implement, deliver and monitor specific initiatives & participate in provincial initiatives on behalf of PHSA; develop work plans / projects and supervise project workers. Functions as a systems leader and change agent, and is responsible for providing leadership, consultation and direction for professional, inter-professional, and identified specialized education programs / projects across PHSA aligned with PHSA’s professional practice strategic plan.
What you’ll do
- In collaboration with discipline leaders, educators and senior leaders and utilizing sound knowledge of adult education theory and application, ensures PHSA education / professional development strategy and initiatives relevant to professional practice are achieved. Facilitates education, policy and systems level discussions regarding professional learning strategies and education plans to meet those needs across PHSA and provincially. Implements, delivers and evaluates specific cross HA learning programs such as the Educator Pathway.
- Provides leadership in creating, articulating, innovating and sustaining an organization-wide vision for inter-professional education. Assists with PHSA-wide implementation and coordination of professional practice education initiatives. Establishes evaluation plans using identified models to ensure learning programs are meeting learning outcomes. Utilizes and models effective change management strategies to achieve systems level transformation.
- Participates in policy and procedure development, including those related to educational impacts of clinical informatics on the roles and education needs of the inter-professional team; consults and / or participates in system change processes for implementation and evaluation of information systems in practice settings as it relates to the educational competencies / components. Participates in design of relevant data collection tools for decision- making and record keeping.
- Supports organizational strategy deployment, ensuring that professional practice educational priorities are aligned with PHSA and provincial strategic priorities. Tracks, analyzes and reports progress in relation to designated performance indicators.
- Provides leadership for a wide range of projects designed to address PHSA-wide operational goals and vision such as inter-professional collaborative practice education strategies, new technology integration, educator professional development, new graduate programs, front line leader education and support strategies, employed student nurse program and others. Directs and supervises the work of contractors and project teams. Assists with operating and capital budget development and develops and manages budgets and contractors related to assigned projects.
- Organizes, facilitates, and delivers system level, specialized education programs / projects including the Educator Pathway. Undertakes the design (including curriculum) and implementation of additional specialized education programs / projects to meet identified priorities (such as the Researcher Pathway).
- Engages in consultation with professional disciplines at all levels of the organization and beyond the Health Authority to ensure that planned education practices are designed to support the maintenance or enhancement of clinical care delivery. Provides systems leadership for effective profession-specific and inter-professional participation by PHSA in advancing education supports for practice, including for transition and support of clinical information systems.
- Represents the PHSA professional practice portfolio in decision making forums as assigned including internal, external and / or provincial forums for : learning & education, research, strategic planning, quality and other defined health authority level initiatives. Remains current with emerging trends in interprofessional collaborative practice and related practice education. Develops and maintains professional contacts and networks to facilitate the appropriate disposition of requests for information and support for projects from appropriate disciplines across PHSA, provincially, nationally and internationally.
- Advises and makes recommendations to the Chief Nursing Officer regarding trends and opportunities to advance discipline specific and inter-professional collaborative education or maintain sustainability of the professional workforce. Works closely with the Professional Practice team, Departments of Learning and Development, Quality, Safety & Risk Management, Academic Planning, Clinical Informatics, clinical programs and other groups on special projects to address issues, educational needs and retention strategies.
- Leads and mentors inter-professional dialogue and enhances practice scholarship within and across professional groups. Cultivates new opportunities for clinically based health services research, professional and interprofessional presentations and publications in collaboration with agency partners. Participates in quality management initiatives related to patient and health professional data in practice.

Qualifications
A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Master’s Degree in a Health Sciences Discipline (with education focus), plus five (5) years of recent, related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience supplemented by two (2) years progressive experience in education program planning & delivery in a health setting. Advanced preparation in Education an asset. Current practicing registration with own discipline professional regulatory body.Demonstrated ability to design, develop and implement : learning needs assessments, curriculum, learning materials, a broad repertoire of teaching techniques, practice integration strategies, and evaluation plans.Demonstrated knowledge and experience in facilitation of inter-professional collaborative education. Knowledge of learning and evaluation models. Superior organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze situations, develop resolutions and support remedial action. Demonstrated self-starter with high level of motivation. Adaptable and flexible to meet changing priorities and resource constraints. Knowledge of research process and methodology. Well-developed project planning and management skills.
