Job description

Wood is currently accepting applications for Adhoc Radio Operators Offshore personnel, with extensive experience in the oil and gas petrochemical industry. This role will be located offshore Newfoundland and Labrador and will be a casual call-out role. The successful candidate will be willing and eligible to travel Offshore via helicopter or supply vessel.

  • 5+ years’ experience as a Radio Operator in an Offshore environment, preferably in the oil and gas industry
  • General Operators Certificate endorsed for GMDSS issued by Industry Canada
  • GMDSS Certificate from an accredited GMDSS training institution
  • Aviation and marine weather observer certification from a recognized institution or qualified instructor
  • Restricted Operators Aeronautical (ROA) Certificate
  • Regulatory Training required for offshore travel such as : Basic Survival Training (BST), H2S Alive, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) would be an asset
  • Effective communication skills (written, oral and computer)
  • Qualified to MANMAR & METAR standard with INDS Weather
  • Radar Navigation Certification ARPA
  • Familiarity with Canadian Rescue Coordination Centre and procedures
  • Familiarity with ECAREG procedures
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management system
  • Demonstrated teamwork behaviors consistent with company values
  • Familiarity with quality processes
  • Ability to recognize and resolve conflict
  • Maintain mandatory training and certification for continued offshore work
  • Experience working in a producing offshore oil and gas facility or petrochemical environment
  • The following Offshore Certificates and Training is required and would be considered an asset : Basic Survival Training (BST) including HUET and HUEBA Rigging, Slinging, and Banksman Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) Alive Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS 2015) Offshore Safety Regulatory Awareness Fall Protection Confined Space Entry Emergency First Aid

Physical Requirements

  • Must pass a site-specific drug and alcohol test, and CAPP Medical as required by the customer
  • Must be able to safely lift and carry up to 50lbs
  • Must possess enough strength and stamina to perform the technical duties and essential functions as identified above
  • Able to move and work in confined spaces, following proper protocol
  • May be required consistently to work 12-hour shifts performing physical labour in varying temperature extremes and conditions. May be required to work overtime on occasion
  • Must be able to climb and maintain balance on stairs, ladders, scaffolds and steel framework, utilizing proper fall arrest procedures when required. Able to safely and comfortably work at heights without posing a danger to oneself or others
  • Able to meet physical requirements of frequent walking, climbing, standing, bending, twisting and crawling for the duration of the shift
