The Head of Core Banking is responsible for overseeing, managing, and enhancing the bank’s core banking systems to ensure they support the organization's strategic goals, operational efficiency, and compliance requirements. This role will play a pivotal part in driving the digital transformation agenda, ensuring system stability, scalability, and innovation. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of core banking operations, technology, and industry best practices.

Responsibilities :

Core Banking System Management

  • Lead the strategy, planning, and execution of core banking system operations, upgrades, and enhancements
  • Ensure seamless day-to-day functioning of the core banking platform, minimizing downtime and disruptions
  • Collaborate with vendors and technology partners to ensure the system’s stability and alignment with the bank’s requirements.

Technology Strategy & Development

  • Drive the modernization and optimization of the core banking platform to support evolving business needs
  • Develop and implement a roadmap for system upgrades and integration with emerging technologies.
  • Partner with stakeholders to align the core banking system with the bank’s strategic objectives, including digital transformation initiatives.
  • Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing core banking team
  • Foster collaboration between IT, operations, and business units to ensure the core banking system meets cross-functional needs
  • Act as a liaison between senior leadership and technical teams to align priorities and expectations.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure that the core banking system complies with local and international banking regulations and standards
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to core banking operations and data security
  • Conduct regular audits and system reviews to maintain compliance and operational integrity.
  • Performance Monitoring & Reporting

  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for the core banking system and regularly report on system performance
  • Monitor and analyze system metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement changes
  • Provide executive-level updates on core banking initiatives, performance, and risks.
  • Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field (MBA or equivalent advanced degree is a plus)
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in core banking systems management, technology leadership, or a related role in the banking or financial services industry
  • Proven track record of leading large-scale technology transformations, preferably involving core banking system modernization
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and third-party partnerships in the financial services sector
  • Strong understanding of banking regulations and compliance requirements
  • In-depth knowledge of core banking platforms, including system architecture, scalability, and integration with ancillary systems
  • Proficiency in emerging technologies such as cloud computing, APIs, microservices, and data analytics as they apply to banking systems
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity practices and frameworks relevant to banking operations
  • Exceptional leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to build, mentor, and inspire high-performing teams
  • Strong project management capabilities, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex, multi-stakeholder projects
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to align technology initiatives with business goals
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills in high-pressure environments
  • Ability to foster collaboration and build consensus across diverse teams and departments
  • Bilingualism
