Job description

Role Responsibilities

Do you want to be a key part of the organization and coordinate and supply fireline equipment to wildland fires? Do you have what it takes physically and mentally to withstand working long hours supporting wildland fire operations? Here is a glimplse of a day on the job :

If so, a Stock keeper position may be an ideal seasonal position for you.

A Stock keeper person is required to perform a variety of duties. The priority is to support the Forest Area in receiving, storing, and issuing equipment and supplies to Forest Area staff. In addition, you will be responsible for assisting in the delivery of the supplies, maintaining an inventory tracking system, re-stocking and building equipment kits, and possibly assisting with equipment management on a wildland fire incident.

Other Responsibilities :

  • Responsible for receiving, storing, and issuing materials and supplies to Forestry and Parks staff.
  • Transportation arrangements of equipment and supplies to a particular location.
  • Equipment repair, cleaning, and restocking of supplies to ensure that response to another incident is timely.
  • Building the equipment kits and ensuring they are rebuilt and certified to the fire line standards.
  • Entry of equipment requests into the Inventory Management Information System (IMIS).
  • Assist other GOA departments and programs, e.g. Assist the Detection Program (Lookout Observers) by assisting in purchasing and delivery of equipment, groceries, and supplies.
  • May also play a role in a large fire incident where a supply section is set up to issue and track fire equipment.
  • Work with others and sometimes alone.
  • Assist in the surplus of equipment.
  • Must be a part of the warehouse stand-by schedule.
  • Operation of forklift to load and unload delivery trucks.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements :

  • High school diploma,
  • Plus, one (1) year of related experience (i.e., up to 12 months)
  • All candidates must be 18 years of age or older as of March 1, 2025, or prior to their start date.
  • Position start dates range from March 1 to April 30, 2025.
  • Equivalencies will be considered and candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary.

    Directly related experience or education may be considered on the basis of :

  • one year of experience for one year of education or
  • one year of education for one year of experience.
  • Other Requirements :

  • Highly organized individual with an excellent keyboard, computer, and good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office, specifically : Word, Outlook and Excel. Other database experience would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of equipment and supplies used in Wildland Fire Suppression activities.
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS).
  • Physically able to perform the manual duties found in the position assignment.
  • A valid, unrestricted Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License, or equivalent
  • A minimum 3-year Driver's Abstract, showing a record of seven (7) demerits or less (obtained within 30 days of your commencement date and presented to management prior to commencement)
  • A valid Standard First Aid certificate with CPR & AED certification.
  • A current Defensive Driving certificate.
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods certificate; Ground and Air.
  • Forklift certification considered to be an asset.
  • Qualified candidates with less experience may be offered a position at a lower classification and pay rate.

    Notes

    This role is temporary, sesonal, daily work hours are 8 hours, the weekly work hours are 40hrs. Working on the weekends if needed.

    What We Offer :

  • Wage employees receive 11.2% in addition to regular wage earnings in lieu of paid holidays and vacation leave :
  • 5.2 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays.

    6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay.

  • Shift differential and opportunity to work overtime, evening, and weekend shifts.
  • Premium Pay Allowances :

  • Wage employees residing above the 57th Parallel (i.e., High Level Forest Area) are eligible for a biweekly Northern allowance of $241.38.
  • Wage employees residing within the Fort McMurray Forest Area receive a biweekly allowance of $478.17 (pro-rated for part-time employees).
  • About Your Work Environment :

  • This competition is recruiting seasonal wage Stockkeeper positions with weekly hours up to 40.
  • This position may require you to work evenings and weekends to meet fire season operational needs.
  • Successful candidates will be provided with training.
  • This position requires the ability to lift up to 30 kg (66 lbs.)
  • Estimated term of employment is from 3 to 8 months during the wildfire season, anticipated between April 2025 to October 31, 2025, dependent on operational needs.
