Reporting to the Production Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all yard operations including shipping and receiving, inventory organization, material handling, and supervising the yard crew. This role plays a vital part in ensuring the efficient flow of materials and supporting both shop and project timelines. Responsibilities

• Take full ownership of daily yard operations, ensuring safety, organization, and efficiency
• Lead and supervise the yard crew, assigning tasks and setting clear expectations
• Oversee loading, unloading, staging, and organization of materials using forklifts and cranes
• Inspect incoming materials, verify against purchase orders, and report any discrepancies or damages
• Manage yard inventory, including labeling, storage, stock rotation, and timely restocking
• Accurately document shipping and receiving activities in inventory/ERP systems
• Communicate with the Production Manager and relevant departments to ensure smooth material flow and project continuity
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused yard environment
• Train and mentor yard employees on procedures, equipment operation, and safety standards
• Support process improvements to increase yard efficiency and accuracy

Requirements/Qualifications

• Previous experience in yard management, shipping/receiving, or structural steel is an asset
• Experience operating forklifts, overhead cranes, and rigging equipment
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities
• Able to lift heavy materials and work outdoors in various weather conditions
• Proficient in basic computer use and documentation
• Must be detail-oriented and safety-conscious
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team
• Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English clearly

Health & Safety Responsibilities

• Active participation in company safety program
• Follow safety protocol including wearing of required PPE and understanding and application of safety policies, procedures and practices
