Job Description

The Senior HSSE Specialist will be responsible for developing, leading, and continuously improving the company's HSSE programs and initiatives. This senior-level role will require a deep understanding of HSSE practices within the drilling industry, combined with the ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams at all levels. The HSSE Senior Specialist will play a critical role in shaping the company’s HSSE strategy, driving compliance, and fostering a strong safety culture across global operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation, and management of comprehensive HSSE programs, policies, and procedures across multiple drilling operations
  • Serve as a subject matter expert, providing high-level guidance and technical support on all HSSE-related matters
  • Collaborate with senior management to integrate HSSE objectives into overall business plans
  • Mentor and coach HSSE specialists and operational teams, building HSSE competency and fostering a proactive safety culture
  • Ensure compliance with local, national, and international HSSE regulations and industry standards
  • Lead complex risk assessments and develop strategic risk management plans.
  • Stay current with changes in HSSE legislation and industry best practices, advising the organization on necessary adjustments
  • Oversee the investigation of major accidents, incidents, and near-misses, ensuring thorough analysis and the implementation of corrective actions
  • Develop and maintain procedures for incident reporting, investigation, and follow-up
  • Provide expert guidance on complex HSSE issues and emergency response scenarios
  • Design, implement, and maintain advanced HSSE programs, including training, emergency response, and environmental protection initiatives
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of HSSE programs, making adjustments as necessary to enhance performance and compliance
  • Develop and deliver advanced HSSE training programs for senior management and employees
  • Foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement through mentorship and coaching of HSSE team members
  • Conduct comprehensive HSSE audits and inspections to assess compliance and identify areas for improvement
  • Analyze HSSE performance metrics and trends, providing recommendations for enhancing safety and environmental performance
  • Act as the primary point of contact for external regulatory agencies, industry groups, and other stakeholders on HSSE matters
  • Represent the organization at HSSE-related meetings, conferences, and forums
  • Oversee the preparation of detailed HSSE reports and documentation for internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of HSSE performance, incidents, and compliance issues

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field. Years of experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
  • 5+  years of HSSE experience, with at least 3 years in a senior or leadership role within the energy, oil & gas, or drilling sectors
  • Extensive knowledge of HSSE regulations, standards, and best practices (e.g., OSHA, EPA, ISO 14001)
  • Understanding and Implementation Strategies of IOGP International HSSE Standards and Life Saving Rules
  • Proven track record of leading HSSE initiatives at a senior level, including influencing decision-making and driving cultural change
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to guide and develop both junior and senior-level team members
  • Professional certifications such as NEBOS, IOSH, BCSP : (CSP, SMS, OHST, CHST)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to travel to domestic and international locations as needed
  • Additional qualifications

    Must be able to obtain appropriate offshore certifications :

  • Basic Survival Training (BST) - Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S)
  • Installation Safety Induction - Regulatory Awareness
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
