Ballard has an immediate opening for an Electrical Engineer to join the Systems Engineering Team. The successful candidate will work well with existing engineering staff, is capable of independent work, and will contribute to the development of Ballard's fuel cell system products.
Responsibilities :
- Perform design, packaging and verification of electrical systems
- Design and validation of wire harnesses
- Select and source electrical components (sensors, controllers, converters / inverters, PCBA, contactors, transformers, etc.)
- Develop component design requirements from system requirements
- Design prototype components and subsystems
- Verify designs through analysis and testing
- Troubleshooting / resolution of existing electrical components and systems
- Assist in preparation of technical documents, including test procedures, test reports, design specifications, and component / system design requirements
- Prepare and / or review technical drawings
Requirements :
Must have a technical diploma or engineering degree from an Electrical / Electronics / Mechatronics programMust have at least 4 years' experience in an electrical engineering field; ideally related to product developmentExperience designing, drawing, analyzing low voltage analog & digital circuitsExperience with analog / digital inputs and outputs for managing sensors and actuators within a systemUnderstanding of Controller Area Networks (CAN)Ability to read Process & Instrumentation DiagramsTroubleshooting skills with DMM, Oscilloscope, Insulation Tester, High-Potential Testers, and Ground / Bond TestersBasic electrical prototyping skills including : bread-boarding, soldering through-hole and surface-mount componentsBasic skill with mechanical prototyping tools such as drills, grinders, wrenchesDemonstrated capability for critical thinkingExcellent time management and organizational skillsStrong oral and written communication skills and good listening skillsAbility to work in a multi-functional team environmentAdditional Consideration :
Experience and interest in PCB design and Altium softwareKnowledge of fuel cell technologyExperience in automotive or mobile equipment designAbility to create Process & Instrumentation DiagramsExperience with PLCs, Alarm Lists, and creation of I / O drawingsExperience with instrumentation including pressure, temperature and flow measurement devicesExperience with microcontroller programmingKnowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and / or National Electrical Code or European IEC standardsExperience / proficiency in automation and machine communicationThe typical hiring range for this position is CAD$75,000 - CAD$ 93,000 per annum. In determining total compensation, Ballard considers many factors, including the successful Candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, experience, position location, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards offering, permanent employees in this position may be eligible for our competitive annual short-term and long-term bonus program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
