The Opportunity

The City of St. Albert is recruiting an individual to join our Information Technology Services department as a Term GIS Technician.

Reporting to Spatial Data and Applications Team Lead, this position is responsible for performing data capture, updates, and maintenance to support the City’s corporate GIS functions. The role involves providing GIS client support, data manipulation, and applying cartographic principles to design high-quality maps.

The key responsibilities will include :

  • Mapping Services
  • Enterprise GIS Data Creation & Maintenance
  • Web & Mobile Application Support
  • GIS Service Desk Support
  • Supporting Emergency Services by preparing and updating data for utilization by 9-1-1, dispatch, and maps.

The individual we seek is conscientious, client-focused, has a high level of initiative and excellent interpersonal skills. You have an aptitude for learning new technology and have the ability to translate business needs into GIS solutions.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography or a related discipline with two years experience or a post-secondary diploma in Geographic Information Systems, or Geography with four years experience in Esri ArcGIS.
  • Experience and fluency in ESRI products including editing data, performing analysis, and producing maps, preferably in government operations.
  • Hands on experience gathering requirements, preparing and updating high-quality maps.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of spatial data maintenance, including creating, updating, quality checking and metadata. Experience working with imagery is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of web mapping applications for mobile data collection and update, including gathering requirements, design, implementation, training and support.
  • Sound communication skills and a focus on customer service excellence.
  • Hours of Work

    We offer a compressed bi-weekly work schedule of 72 hours, Monday - Friday, 8 : 00 – 5 : 00, with a biweekly regular day off (RDO).

    FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE

    This position may be eligible to apply for flexible hours to adjust start and end times from the core hours of 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. by 30 or 60 minutes.

    FULL-TIME REMOTE WORK

    This position is designated for full-time remote work. Candidates must live within Alberta and complete a remote work agreement to meet all policy requirements. Some roles may require that a reasonable commutable distance be maintained if regular, occasional or emergent onsite attendance is required.

    Compensation

    64,602 - $79,509 per annum ($2,484.69 - $3,058.04 biweekly). In addition, the City of St. Albert offers a comprehensive flexible benefit package.

    Term

    This is a term position from September 2024 through March 2025.
