Job Description
The Complex Care and Recovery Program is currently seeking a full-time, permanent Registered Nurse to work in the Geriatric Mental Health Outpatient Clinics.
As a member of an inter-professional team, you will provide client-centred psychiatric and general nursing care while ensuring the security and safety of the clinical setting.
In accordance with the CNO standards, CAMH Policies and Practice Model, and the Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice, you will perform assessments, develop, implement and evaluate the inter-professional plan of client care for clients with psychotic, memory and mood disorders over the age of 50.
Your skills include the ability to make behavioral observations, complete mental status and physical assessments, monitor clients’ response to pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical care interventions, administer injections, follow current documentation standards and communicate regularly with the interprofessional team.
You will have sound knowledge of psychotic, memory and mood disorders and their treatment, including both individual and group interventions.
You will have an understanding of the medical, psychiatric and psychosocial issues affecting geriatric clients and a general understanding of the major community partners that support them.
Your strengths include an ability to perform assessments sensitive to the geriatric population, as well as develop, implement and evaluate interdisciplinary client centered care plans.
You will be able to work with clients from diverse populations; contribute to program development; provide education support and supervision to students and participate in the research-affiliated activities of the program.

This position will require visiting clients in the community (long term care homes, retirement / nursing / boarding homes, private homes) and flexible hours.
This position is based at the Queen Street Site.
Minimum Requirements
- The successful candidate must be a registered member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- A current B.L.S.C. (CPR) certificate is also required
- You will have two years’ psychiatric nursing experience
- Preference will be given to candidates who possess or are currently pursuing a CNA certification in Psychiatric / Mental Health / Geriatric Nursing
- Experience with the Geriatric population is essential
- Experience within an outpatient setting is an asset
- Experience providing nursing care in the community is an asset
- A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is an asset
- You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to enable you to develop the Nurse-Client relationship and work within a collaborative and diverse inter-professional team
- Effective leadership, decision-making, organizational and problem solving skills are required.
- You have demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of symptoms related to psychosis, memory issues and mood disorders
- The ability to work with clients of diverse cultural and social backgrounds is necessary
- Computer literacy is required
- Bilingualism (French / English) or proficiency in a second language would be an asset
