Associate Consultant, Health & Benefits

HUB International’s National Accounts Team is the cornerstone of our Employee Benefits consulting expertise in Canada. Dedicated to delivering innovative and customized solutions, this team partners with organizations of all sizes to help them attract, retain, and support their most valuable asset—people. Combining deep industry expertise with forward-thinking strategies, the National Accounts Team delivers a full spectrum of employee benefits services, including plan design, cost management, and wellness initiatives. At HUB, we empower businesses to navigate the complexities of employee benefits while creating programs that promote employee well-being and drive organizational success.

About The Role

The Associate Consultant role at HUB is a hands-on, client-facing position focused on managing day-to-day project work, contributing to client solutions, and supporting both junior team members and senior leadership. You’ll work on valuations, renewals, RFPs, and deliverables while interpreting legislation and maintaining strong client relationships. The role also includes mentoring juniors, peer reviewing work, and participating in client presentations.

It’s ideal for someone with strong analytical, communication, and project management skills who’s looking to deepen their technical knowledge and take on more ownership of client work. It offers opportunities to lead initiatives, develop project plans, and provide strategic insights.

What You’ll Do

  • Support consultants and vice presidents in managing and strengthening client relationships

  • Ensure quality control and alignment with service standards

  • Assist with financial analyses and strategic insurer negotiations during renewals

  • Review and ensure accuracy and compliance of financial statements, contracts, and marketing materials

  • Contribute to the development of market specifications and analyze insurer proposals

  • Play an active role in insurer selection processes

  • Support actuarial evaluations related to post-retirement and employment benefit plans (excluding pension plans)

  • Conduct research on group insurance topics in collaboration with team members

  • Assist in preparing materials and documentation for client and insurer meetings

  • Help define project budgets, timelines, and deliverables

  • Stay informed about other service areas across the firm to ensure integrated support

  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development; share knowledge to support team growth

  • Contribute to internal initiatives that promote innovation and team engagement

  • Stay current with provincial and federal legislative changes

  • Monitor industry trends and best practices, sharing relevant insights with clients and colleagues

What You’ll Need for Success

  • 3–6 years of experience in group insurance

  • University degree in either Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or Business.

  • Progress toward or attainment of FSA and FCIA designations (considered an asset)

  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities

  • Familiarity with accounting standards for post-retirement benefit plans (an asset)

  • Highly organized, proactive, adaptable, and self-driven

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

What’s in it for you?

Your well-being is our priority, and we back this up with a wealth of benefits:

  • Competitive Compensation: Benefit from a pay structure that includes incentives, bonuses, and opportunities to increase your earnings.

  • Work-Life Balance: Enjoy flexible work arrangements and generous time off to support your personal and professional life.

  • Career Growth and Support: Invest in your future with HUB! Take advantage of our sponsored training and development programs, tuition reimbursement opportunities, and coverage for professional license fees and membership dues—everything you need to support your growth and excel in your career.

  • Exclusive Perks: Take advantage of discounts on events, travel, accommodations, and personal home & auto insurance.
