The Role :

This role will be responsible for capital management and project controls, and will play a crucial part in driving the Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) process, ensuring comprehensive financial justification and cost control for capital and operational projects.

This role will also be responsible for coordinating the capital budgeting process, facilitating monthly capital review meetings, and working closely with various mine sites to support the review and preparation of capital projects for sanctioning.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Support AFE justifications, ensuring clear scope definition, financial and sensitivity analysis, and comparative assessment.
  • Develop board and executive reports with structured, data-driven justifications for capital projects.
  • Collaborate with Finance and sites to validate capital project inputs for budgeting, forecasting, and allocation.
  • Support monthly capital review meetings, ensuring alignment with Full Potential initiatives, tracking progress, and maintaining strategic alignment.
  • Ensure AFE compliance with governance policies, approval thresholds, and risk management standards.
  • Implement best practices in capital project management, benchmarking against industry peers, and defining metrics for sustaining Capex in LOM plans.
  • Ensure proper project stage-gating from conception to sanctioning and completion, collaborating with mine sites, Technical Services, and Operations.
  • Support capital management processes by validating and standardizing technical and financial inputs.
  • Review Capex from a technical perspective, ensuring site-prepared tear sheets align with budgets, validating cost assumptions, and identifying inconsistencies.
  • Support post-mortem AFE analysis to capture lessons learned, assess deviations, and improve capital planning.
  • Develop and maintain a business intelligence system to optimize sustaining Capex and align capital classification with industry and IFRS standards.
  • Support the joint venture Board and Technical Committee in reviewing and approving capital expenditures.

What You Bring :

  • Minimum 8 years of capital project management, primarily within the mining industry.
  • Prior experience as a mining engineer is required
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Finance or Accounting, Business, or a related field.
  • Strong financial modeling and analytical skills, with a solid understanding of cost control, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders and lead cross-functional projects
  • Fluency in Spanish and / or Portuguese is a strong asset
  • Ability to travel to mine sites (10-20% of the time).
