Grade : C0 : 13

Hours :  37.5 hours per week

Salary :  $32.59 $37.26 per hour (Start rate nonnegotiable)

Shifts : All Shifts 24 / 7

Status : Temporary Full Time (until January 2026)

Closing Date : January 6 2025

Position Summary

The successful candidates will perform customer service duties : greeting patients managing patient line up troubleshooting patient problems. Technical duties include ECG Venipuncture on inpatients / outpatients as well as Specimen Management.

The division of Specimen Management specializes in specimen procurement and processing for all UHN sites. As a valued member of Team LMP you will play a key role in providing high quality preanalytical services to clinical laboratory and research professionals.

Duties

  • Greet patients manage / triage patient line up troubleshoot patient problems
  • Perform ECG on inpatient and outpatients
  • Perform venipuncture on inpatients and outpatients
  • Manipulate and process specimens as per laboratory protocols
  • Operate laboratory equipment
  • Organize and arrange transport of specimens
  • Practice and provide patient centered care
  • Use hospital information systems to access and document procedures
  • Participates in training of staff
  • Maintain safe working environment and comply with IPAC

Qualifications :

  • Completion of Grade 12 or recognized equivalent
  • Graduate of a postsecondary Laboratory Technician or Laboratory Assistant certificate program or recognized equivalent
  • OSMT (Ontario Society of Medical Technologists) or CSMLS license preferred
  • Minimum one (1) year related work experience in a laboratory setting
  • Minimum one (1) year recent work experience in venipuncture ECG and specimen management
  • Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory equipment maintenance and operation
  • Effective organizational time management skills and prioritization skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of appropriate behaviour required working successfully in a diverse work group.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Procedures in a laboratory
  • Computer literate in Windows based applications
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member
  • Ability to work accurately under stressful conditions
