Job Summary
The Manager, Production is responsible for the inspection and maintenance of tracks, roadbed and right away, in accordance with the sound engineering practices and approved railway standards, specifications, procedures and budgets and within the CN operating plan. The incumbent oversees teams of various sizes and is accountable for leading a large territory, manpower and budget. The position is considered a developmental role prior to moving to the Senior Manager, Engineering position.
Main Responsibilities
People Management
- Provide leadership to Program Supervisors and hourly Maintenance of Way (MOW) employees
- Provide clear direction on employee performance and department goals and objectives
- Provide coaching and counselling to subordinates who are not performing to established goals and standards
- Respond to and resolve grievances
Safety
Build safety compliance and improve safety resultsCarry regular efficiency testing and safety walkaboutsProvide positive and constructive feedbackProgram Inspections and Standards
Execute capital program requirementsInspect programs during and upon completionIdentify quality control conditions requiring action to meet Engineering Track StandardsProduction Activities

The role will be primarily performed outdoors (80%) in various types of weather and environmental conditions and partially performed in an office environment (20%). The role requires being available on-call 24 / 7 to respond to critical incidences and requires frequent travel (80%) across the territory.

Railroad and Track
