About the Company
Our client is a diagnostics laboratory. They are looking for a Tax Manager who will be responsible for i) preparing, filing and ensuring that the payment of taxes are completed on time and in compliance with commodity tax and corporate income tax laws for all legal entities within the group, ii) researching and reporting on tax queries iii) liaising with auditors, and iv) preparing / finalizing comprehensive tax memos and engaging in tax planning for the Company.

About the Opportunity
Accountability : (50%)
- Prepares / Reviews Canadian HST, and provincial commodity tax returns with related supporting schedules and working papers
- Files and arranges for timely payment according to deadlines of federal and provincial commodity taxes and follow-up on all tax payments
- Prepares Canadian corporate income tax and partnership returns, payments, working papers and other compliance to ensure accurate and timely reporting of taxes
- Prepares quarterly / annual deferred income tax provision and book to tax differences
- Prepares quarterly / year end note disclosures related to income taxes in accordance with IFRS accounting standards
- Responsible for income and commodity tax account reconciliations and related working papers
- Prepares tax memos and position papers to support company tax strategies or new revenue streams
Accountability : (10%)
- Manages government audit process and works directly with government auditors including gathering working papers and supporting documents
- Maintains organized audit ready files with appropriate documentation that are fully referenced and supported
Accountability : (5%)
- Reviews Notices of Assessment and Statements of Account for relevant legal entities and where applicable follows up with the CRA and provincial tax agencies to reconcile discrepancies
- Drafts Notices of Objections or Waivers where appropriate
- Liaises with CRA and external tax advisors / consultants as needed
Accountability : (15%)
- Assists with the development and maintenance of internal controls and process improvements along with documentation for tax functions
- Ensures internal tax procedural documentation is up to date
- Implementation of commodity and income tax requirements in ERP system, including automation to the tax compliance process
Accountability : (10%)
- Communicates effectively with Finance and other departments to maintain and implement commodity tax policies and compliance
- Works with Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Procurement to resolve invoice tax discrepancies
- Liaises with external tax advisors and consultants as needed
Accountability : (10%)
- Stays informed of tax legislation changes from government, performs tax research on commodity and income tax compliance issues and identifies tax saving opportunities
- Prepares tax memos and position papers related to tax compliance
- Engages in tax planning and actively implements new tax legislation or tax savings structures
- Performs ad-hoc analysis and other duties as assigned
About You
- CPA Designation
- 7 years of progressive Tax experience, some or all within Public Accounting
- In-depth Tax Program, either close to completion or completed
- Experience working with both direct and indirect tax
Salary Range
$125,000 / year
