What you will do :
- Work in the Youth Health Center providing comprehensive primary care and episodic care.
- Diagnose and manage both common and complex health conditions; provide advocacy and patient education.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests.
- Prescribe pharmaceuticals and other therapies.
- Perform procedures, interventions, and treatments which could include IUD insertion and contraceptive implant insertions.
- Join the Mosaic PCN upon hire
- Build a panel of patients through the clinics at The Alex.
- Provide guidance to members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations.
- Collect data and support evaluation process.
- Provide support in program design and development.
- Support fostering a team culture that promotes collaboration and safety as well as a harassment free environment.
- Other duties as assigned.
What you bring :
- Active license with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) under Family / All ages registration.
- Completion of an approved Master’s degree / Nurse Practitioner program and triplicate prescribing authority.
- Demonstrated ability to practice both independently and within an interdisciplinary team.
- Knowledge, skills and abilities to work with complex individuals experiencing addictions, mental health, isolation, homelessness and poverty concerns.
- Strong communication skills and ability to adapt communication style to meet the unique needs of individuals.
- Comfort using harm reduction, strength based, and trauma informed care approaches is required.
- Ability to set boundaries yet able to effectively build relationships with hard to engage patients.
- High level of initiative, flexibility and professionalism.
- Experience with or willingness to obtain training in addiction medicine and harm reduction including opioid replacement therapy (Suboxone, Sublocade, Methadone).
- Interest and experience in sexual health including pre / postnatal care is an asset.
- Experience with mental health assessment, support and treatment is beneficial.
- Experience working with gender diverse individuals is an asset.
- Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team model and innovative outreach service delivery model.
- Experience with community outreach and crisis intervention is an asset.
- Knowledge of social services and non-profit services in Calgary is an asset.
- Minimum age of 25 years to fulfill fleet vehicle driving requirements.
- Class 5 driver’s license and a clean 3-year drivers abstract are required.
- HCP / BLS level CPR & AED, as well as First Aid (Basic or Intermediate) Level C CPR & AED within 30 days of hire date; certification must be valid for a minimum of 6 months upon hire.
- A satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal record clearance and child welfare intervention check are required.
- Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada : Calls to Action.
Work Environment and Hours :
- Work at The Alex Youth Health Centre ( 2nd Ave SE)
- 0.6 FTE
- Standard Hours are generally 10-6pm. No weekends or stat holidays. Flexibility in terms of working days and availability.
- An extended period of orientation and mentorship will be provided, tailored to your experience and comfort. Enthusiastic new graduate NPs are welcome to apply.
