Rygiel Supports for Community Living is seeking compassionate and dedicated Support Workers to join our team and provide high-quality support to individuals with disabilities in Hamilton. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Create a warm, supportive, and inclusive living environment by working closely with a team to ensure residents feel safe and valued. Assist with social and leisure activities, transportation, and medical appointments as needed. Respond effectively to the changing needs of the individuals you support by observing, documenting, and reporting any changes in behaviors. Provide hands-on support with daily living activities, including personal care, bedside, and personal hygiene (helping individuals move, bathe, and groom with dignity), meal preparation (i.e. plating, feeding), and light housekeeping (i.e. sweeping, laundry, dishes, etc) in a home environment. Assist with medication and medication reminders as needed. Assist individuals with disabilities in achieving their personal goals, fostering independence, meaningful relationships, and participation in the community. Participate in ongoing staff training and development. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Social services related diploma or degree (DSW, SSW, PSW or related). A minimum of 1 year experience supporting individuals in their home and community. Knowledge of healthcare support care, Behavioural Support Plans and community resources. Experience providing complex healthcare support including g-tube feeds, ostomy care, oral suctioning, and seizure management. Experience with lifts, special diets, redirection of following PT plans. Excellent homemaking skills (cooking, decorating, cleaning). Experience with goal setting, completing goals, and documenting the progress of goals as set out in the Individual Support Plan. Engage in meaningful activities and outings with people supported. Proven demonstrated ability to assist individuals supported to establish and maintain positive relationships with each other and build new ones. Proficient computer skills including a demonstrated ability to work with AIMS and Microsoft Office products. Strong listening / communication skills, writing and reporting skills, and documentation. Strong interpersonal skills with a team. Excellent conflict-management skills using patience, empathy, and collaboration. Excellent time-management, organizational skills, able to manage multiple demands. Proven ability to motivate and encourage team members, valuing their strengths. Ability to plan, implement, organize, multitask, make decisions, problem-solve, and complete tasks independently, while following the input and direction given by the individual supported. Willing to learn new skills, respond to feedback and adapt to any situation. Ability to communicate effectively with families while continuing to support relationships Successful completion of Pharmacology course. Knowledge of alternative communication that will be directed by the individual supported (ie : Blissymbolics, SIGN language, Pic Symbols, where applicable. Ability to understand non-verbal and Gestural language where applicable. Ability to stand for extended periods of time and perform moderate to heavy lifting. Available to work days, evenings, and weekends; willingness to be flexible, reliable and adjust schedules as required by the person(s) being supported and their personal schedule(s) Compassionate, patient, and tolerant. Current Vulnerable Sector Criminal Reference Check. CPR Basic Rescuer and First Aid certification. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification. Full G class driver’s license.
