About The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager - Adult Outpatient, Mental Health & Addictions, the Community Outreach Worker provides a range of clinical services to adults and their families affected by mental health and substance use disorders. The role may be performed in clinic and community settings and includes screening, assessment, brief intervention, case management / navigation, and individual and group treatment. The position emphasizes navigation, advocacy, and coordination of resources within Mental Health and Addictions and the community. Candidates should be knowledgeable in evidence-based psychosocial interventions (e.g., MI, SRP, CBT), harm reduction principles, and community development. The worker serves as a resource to colleagues, clients, and family members and develops linkages with community organizations and agencies.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following :

• Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work
• Registered with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers
• One (1) year post-BSW experience in community outreach, group facilitation, early / brief intervention, and community development
• Knowledge of community health principles, outreach, harm reduction, health promotion and prevention (e.g., mental health, addictions, housing support)
• Strong oral, written and group facilitation skills; problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities
• Well-developed awareness of community resources
• Ability to take initiative and work independently with limited supervision
• Computer skills (PowerPoint, Excel) and willingness to learn ASSIST Training
• Non-violent crisis intervention, Standard First Aid, CPR, suicide risk assessment and Mental Health First Aid
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Commitment to ongoing safety training for patients, clients, and staff
• Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation for travel
• Multilingual competencies considered an asset; French preferred

Minimum Experience : Minimum one (1) year of experience is preferred. If not available, candidates with less than one year may be considered during the selection process and may be placed on the Community Outreach Worker (Developmental) scale if offered employment.

Compensation And Benefits

Community Outreach Worker : $35.83 - $46.37 per hour

Community Outreach Worker (Developmental) : $34.80 - $43.30 per hour

Benefits include health, dental, travel, long-term disability, life insurance, and a defined benefit pension plan (Permanent Long Assignments Only). A Market Adjustment may apply periodically.
