Reporting to the Director, Digital Innovation & Solutions, the Digital Engineering Manager will manage the Digital Solutions department, and lead the digital development activities for the Canadian nuclear business and advance digital products from proof of concept to prototype through to production. The Digital Solutions Manager will provide input into shaping the digital strategy and support the Director, Digital Innovation & Solutions in evolving the strategy and developing the roadmap for digital transformation. As AtkinsRéalis is transforming the way we deliver nuclear projects to enable Canada to meet its Net Zero commitments, the Digital Solutions Manager will empower the digital technical team in innovating the latest digital solutions to solve our clients’ challenges.

Your role within the team:

Functional Management & Leadership

• Functional management of the department including assignment of work, monitoring and managing individual performance, training and development, and hiring of new staff to meet resource demands within the company.
• Effectively interface with the broader management team and external clients.
• Prepare and manage department budgets, objectives and resources.
• Ownership and implementation of departmental action plans.
• Implementation of strategic initiatives to improve business unit and/or department performance.
• Demonstrates ownership and alignment with strategies and action plans. Aligns team members to accomplish goals from action plans.
• Shows leadership of innovation and use of digital technologies to improve work processes and efficiency.
• Establish work processes and continuously improve them to ensure highest quality and efficiency.

Project Management

• Prepare business cases to secure funding for development of innovations/solutions.
• Manage multiple small projects concurrently.
• Develop project scopes, WBS, budgets and schedules.
• Ensure project is delivered on-budget and on-schedule.
• Organize team and work assignments.
• Provide weekly updates on progress, issues and opportunities.
• Document development activities in engineering plans and other project documents.

Technology Development & Digital Transformation

Identify high level concepts for solutions to -

• Develop proof of concepts (POC) or Minimum Viable Products (MVP) for new digital technologies or solutions.
• Oversee research, design, development and implementation of digital solutions including development of new software, or integration of commercially available software.
• Identify software development requirements and activities.

Lead agile team for software development projects

• Ensure development of software is performed in accordance with QA program and industry best practices.
• Maintain software configuration and issues using Azure DevOps.
• Ensure that cybersecurity, information protection, and export control requirements are complied with at all times.

The ideal candidate:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or an Honours degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or similar program.
• 10 years of relevant combined technical and management experience in an engineering environment.
• 3-5 years of Project Management experience.
• Proficient with engineering design processes including requirements gathering, conceptual and detail design, documentation, design validation and testing.
• Experience with software development process in highly regulated industries such as nuclear, aerospace, healthcare, etc.
• Experience in technology areas such as Data Science / Advanced Analytics / Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
• Experience developing or deploying Artificial Intelligence solutions.
• Ability to lead a multidisciplinary team in a collaborative environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience in development and implementation of digital twin technologies.
• Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM).
• Familiarity with 3D modelling and visualization software packages/applications.
• Good understanding of Digital Value Chain (from field sensors to client outcomes).
• Solid understanding of data science, and the ability to relate data to value delivery.
