The Yuuuiat Government is a member of the Maa-nulth Treaty Society and, through the Maa- nulth First Nations Final Agreement, is a modern treaty Nation operating with a government-to- government relationship with Canada and the province of British Columbia. As a Self-Governing Indigenous Government, the Yuuuiat Government continues to promote education and community programs that enhance Yuuuiat identity.

Position Summary

The Early Years Outreach Worker provides culturally appropriate early intervention, developmental support, and family-centered services for infants, young children, and their families. This integrated position combines the responsibilities of the Aboriginal Infant Development Program (AIDP) and Aboriginal Supported Child Development (ASDP), ensuring inclusive, wraparound supports for children and families.

The worker is based at the daycare while also conducting home visits, playgroups, outreach, and advocacy in the community. The role emphasizes child development, inclusion, and holistic family wellness, ensuring children are thriving both at home and in care. This role reports to the Childcare Manager in Department ofHuuhtaksiihinaaa (we are always learning) - Education and Youth

Key Responsibilities

Infant & Child Development Supports (AIDP / ASDP)

  • Conduct developmental screenings, assessments, and observations for infants and young children, including those with extra support needs.
  • Manage an independent caseload of families, providing individualized support and monitoring developmental progress.
  • Develop and implement individualized family service / support plans and child care support plans in collaboration with families and staff.
  • Provide in-classroom support and consultation to daycare staff working with children who require additional supports.
  • Assist families and educators in developing strategies to support the inclusion of children with diverse abilities in daycare and community settings.
  • Connect families with specialized service providers (speech / language, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, etc.) and help navigate referrals.
  • Promote a culturally safe, inclusive approach that integrates Nuu-chah-nulth values and teachings into developmental and family supports.

Playgroups & Group Programming

  • Plan and facilitate culturally relevant playgroups, parent-child activities, and early learning programs.
  • Incorporate traditional teachings, land-based learning, and cultural practices into group activities.
  • Support parent education and family workshops focused on child development, inclusion, and wellness.
  • Home Visits & Outreach

  • Conduct regular home visits to provide coaching, resources, and developmental support in a childs home environment.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with families through consistent outreach and follow-up.
  • Provide advocacy and link families to health, social, and educational supports.
  • Advocacy & Referrals

  • Act as a liaison between families and service providers across health, social, and education sectors.
  • Advocate for equitable access to developmental services, therapies, and supports.
  • Ensure families have the tools to navigate complex systems and receive the supports they are entitled to.
  • Collaboration & Teamwork

  • Work collaboratively with daycare staff, Childcare Manager, Education & Youth team members, and health and social services staff.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences and interagency planning meetings.
  • Engage Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and cultural advisors to ground services in Nuu-chah-nulth values and practices.
  • Administration & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of screenings, family / child support plans, and progress notes.
  • Prepare program statistics and reports for funders and internal use.
  • Ensure compliance with provincial AIDP / ASDP standards, and Yuuuiat policies.
  • Qualifications

    Training, Education and Experience

  • Certificate, diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Infant Development, Supported Child Development, or related field preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in infant / child development, family support, and inclusion of children with extra support needs.
  • Valid drivers license and reliable transportation (home visits required).
  • Current First Aid / CPR certification.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Understanding of developmental milestones, early intervention strategies, and inclusive practices.
  • Kind, calm, and grounded in relationship-based approaches.
  • Strong communication, advocacy and relationship-building skills
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions and staying active throughout the day.
