POSITION OVERVIEW

This is an intermediate to senior level position intended to provide the successful candidate with an opportunity for professional growth within CEM Engineering.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures that clients are satisfied with CEM services through professional conduct, diligent response and maintaining successful relationships.
  • Design and develop mechanical systems to high specifications focusing on economy, safety, reliability, quality and sustainability.
  • Provides expertise in their area of specialization.
  • Leads a project team consisting of engineers and designers / drafting.
  • Coordinates the development of the project concept and leads the project from concept to detailed contract documents (Issued for Construction drawings and specifications).
  • Assumes mechanical engineering tasks and responsibilities to track and forecast project performance.
  • Projects typically include cogeneration or CHP (gas turbine, steam turbine, and reciprocating engine prime movers), industrial steam plants, hot water and chiller plants, district energy projects, bio-mass and bio-gas enhancement.
  • Will be required to support engineering proposals and business development.
  • Will be required to travel to job sites in Canada and the USA.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Mechanical Engineer who is customer-focused with a minimum of 7 years of working experience.
  • Fundamental technical engineering knowledge and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree - Mechanical Engineering major.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario and / or Province of Alberta, with good standing.
  • Requires mechanical engineering experience on projects similar to CEM’s area of expertise.
  • Flexibility and capacity to adapt in a small, but dynamic consulting firm.
  • Requires strong interpersonal skills to manage the team, the client, and external parties (utilities, sub-consultants, equipment vendors, etc.).
  • Technical writing skills.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Fluency in standard office software.

    • This is a growth opportunity for the successful candidate therefore there is substantial flexibility in the following required qualifications and experience :

    Understanding of engineering project lifecycle.

    Experience in consulting, specifically, and for example :

  • Technical and Economic Feasibility Studies
  • Process Flow Diagrams
  • Heat and Mass Balance Diagrams
  • Layout Drawings and General Arrangements
  • P&IDs
  • Piping Arrangements and Pipe Stress Analysis
  • Technical Specifications for Mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to use commercial technical software e.g., Caesar II will be an asset.

    • Project Management skills (includes budget / schedule responsibility and scope creep management)

    Project documentation skills for record purposes including (but not limited to) :

  • meeting agendas and minutes
  • reports
  • scope summaries
  • equipment evaluations
  • cost comparisons
  • design criteria
  • project updates

    • OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Support their Manager with miscellaneous tasks including project requirements and corporate requirements.
  • Willingness to share his / her experience and knowledge with fellow colleagues having different technical backgrounds and mentor junior engineers.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid work environment (3 days in office - Mon / Tue / Wed and 2 days at home)
