Based in Sudbury , the  Fisheries Technician  will report to the Environmental Department Lead and will have a wide range of duties which ultimately focus on environmental assessment, species at risk, and aquatic studies. You will be part of a team that provides practical ecological solutions to industry, government, and private sectors. What You’ll Do : As part of the Environmental team within TULLOCH Engineering, you will :   Work with aquatic and terrestrial field biologists to conduct biophysical surveys in a variety of environments Record clear and concise field data under varied conditions including inclement weather and throughout the evening Conduct and summarise field data Perform surveys using a variety of sampling methods to document fish community structure and populations Support and perform fish health assessments Collect supporting environmental samples, including water, sediment, and benthic invertebrate samples Keep field equipment properly calibrated and functioning, such as electrofishing gear, GPS, and water testing kits Compile data from the field and lab into reports Support various project work as required Please note that this job description is not meant to be an all-inclusive statement of every duty and responsibility that will ever be required of an employee in the job. What You Should Bring : The ideal candidate will have a postsecondary degree or diploma in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Studies, or a related program. Additionally, you should bring :   Experience working in a related role (an asset) Flora and fauna identifications skills, including plants, birds, reptiles, mammals and fish Demonstrated experience conducting aquatic field biophysical surveys Experience with terrestrial field biophysical surveys (an asset) RAQS certification for Fisheries Assessment or Natural Sciences (an asset) Certification in Ecological Lands Classification and the Ontario Wetland Evaluation System (an asset) High motivation with results-oriented focus Superior organizational and multi-tasking skills Strong interpersonal and critical thinking skills Excellent communication skills (oral and written) Unwavering commitment to health and safety in the workplace Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Valid Class G driver’s licence Who You Are :   You are comfortable working in and around water, in remote areas, in all weather conditions, and at night You are willing to travel for fieldwork You are always keen to try something new You work hard until the job is done You go where others will not or cannot because you love a challenge You are trusted with the freedom and responsibility to work independently while contributing to overall team success What We Offer You : TULLOCH has built a passionate workforce with a strong and vibrant culture which has been the key to our success.
