Healthcare Access Control Officer

Site Description : Valley Regional Hospital, which opened in 1992, serves the people of Kings and Annapolis Counties. It provides specialty services as a referral center for the Annapolis Valley and other areas of Western Nova Scotia.

Position Details :

Position : Healthcare Access Control Security Guard.

Site : 150 Exhibition Street, Kentville NS B4N 5E3, Valley Regional Hospital

Hours : Rotation - 0800-2000 / 2000-0800.

Payrate : $20.50 per hour.

Position Summary

The Healthcare Access Control Officer will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of patients, staff, and visitors by operating advanced AI-powered weapon detection systems at the entrances of larger and regional hospitals within NSHA. This position requires exceptional communication and customer service skills to provide a safe, welcoming environment while maintaining a strong security presence.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor AI-based weapon detection and access control systems at designated hospital entry points.
• Engage with patients, visitors, and staff in a professional, courteous, and empathetic manner while conducting screening procedures.
• Respond to system alerts, conduct secondary screening when necessary, and escalate incidents according to NSHA security protocols.
• Provide clear directions, support, and reassurance to individuals passing through the access control process.
• Maintain accurate records of incidents, security breaches, and equipment performance.
• Collaborate with healthcare staff, security teams, and law enforcement partners as required.
• Uphold infection control and hospital safety policies while ensuring smooth traffic flow through entry points.
• Contribute to a culture of safety, respect, and inclusivity within the healthcare environment.
