Job description

Scope and Summary of Primary Responsibilities

The Coordinator, Camp Program will work with the camp management team to maintain the highest level of guest and staff experience. This position will provide assistance with the scheduling of staff; the coordination, supervision and facilitation of guest programming; and responding to guest feedback. The Coordinator, Camp Program will also be responsible for assisting in staff and volunteer training and coaching.

Essential functions

  • Assist in creating a training schedule for staff members, in order to ensure that all required topics are covered
  • Facilitating assigned staff training sessions in an engaging and educational way
  • Support with screening, staff interviews, and onboarding, as needed
  • Plan for staff arrival to camp, including organizing details of arrival, welcome bags, and events
  • Provide support in planning, scheduling and implementation of all camp programming
  • Ensure program / lesson plans are created and saved in the event the program would have to be delivered by other staff and / or volunteers
  • In consultation with the Program Manager, finalize the program schedule, ensuring that it meets the needs of guests and staff members, and includes a variety of programs, including new programs, community-building programs and land and water programs
  • Communicate and update staff, volunteers and guests of any changes to the program schedule
  • Ensure all equipment and supplies are in good working condition and that there are adequate supplies for planned activities
  • Attend programs to ensure superior job performance and guest satisfaction
  • Encourage staff success and development by supervising, coaching, organizing and monitoring work and providing feedback to staff.
  • Connect with staff members on a weekly basis to ensure job satisfactionand check in regarding goals, successes and challenges.
  • Coordinate and oversee staff and volunteer events to encourage positive staff morale and appreciation.
  • Complete staff performance reviews and provide this information to staff members.
  • Facilitate pre- and post-session meetings with staff and volunteers to set expectations for the team.
  • Support staff with managing difficult behaviours or complex group dynamics.
  • Greet guests at the program office window and respond to any guest concerns.
  • Promote and encourage participation in programs through endorsement of activities to guests.
  • Assist guests by taking an active role in all dining room duties, including serving, clearing or being meal lead.
  • Be the point of contact for staff and guests when issues arise and help collaboratively problem solve and provide solutions for guests and staff.
  • Maintain documentation of incidents, near-misses, accidents and any events at beyond regular camp operations.
  • Take on rotational responsibilities of “Manager on Duty”– taking the lead role in emergency situations and responding to text message or phone calls on the “Manager on Duty” cell phone.
  • Work as a team member, taking on other areas of responsibility as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Certifications

  • Enrolled in a Recreation and Leisure, Education, Youth Worker or equivalent program an asset.
  • Current (within 6 months of start date) Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR “C”.
  • National Lifeguarding Certification (NLS) an asset.
  • Current Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCO) an asset.
  • Current G class driver’s licensewith current and clean driver’s abstract an asset.
  • Current F class driver’s license, or willingness to obtain,an asset
  • Experience and Qualifications

  • Previous experience in supervisory role required.
  • Knowledge and experience in an Ontario Camps Association (OCA) accreditedcampan asset.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Mature and professional attitude.
  • Organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to work as a team and independently.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as well as standard camp hours and work outdoors for long periods of time.
  • Work Environment

  • Respects the importance of confidential information while effectively functioning as a team member or working independently.
  • This position may require the ability to work occasional overtime / flex time.
  • This position may have to deal with difficult situations or people.
  • Ability to work flexible hours in a dynamic and busy environment, with frequent interruptions.
  • Must reside at CNIB Lake Joe during operational seasonandbe willing to share accommodations withother staff members.

    Salary range : $20.78-$22.05 / hour
