Huronia Transition Homes is a non-profit organization working to end all violence against all women. We operate 5 primary programs, including La Maison Rosewood Shelter, a woman-centered organization that provides support to women who are fleeing violence, or are experiencing homelessness. We are committed to providing our services within an intersectional feminist and harm reduction integrated environment.
Huronia Transition Homes is currently hiring aFrench Language Services Coordinator Shelter Services for a full-time (40-hour work week), 12-month contract to cover maternity leave.The successful candidate for this position will report to the Manager of Development and Communications, and will work primarily out of our Midland office. Integrating an intersectional feminist framework and a harm reduction philosophy, the French Language Services (FLS) Coordinator is responsible for enhancing FLS capacity across the organization. The FLS Coordinator will support the provision of services to women in French by developing and implementing training plans for staff to improve their French language skills, and by building specialized feedback mechanisms for francophone women in service and awareness of Ontarios French Language Services Act. The FLS Coordinator will support the development and integration of the French language into organizational communication strategies and public awareness campaigns.
Key responsibilities include :
FLS capacity
- Support in the overall organizational capacity to meet the unique needs of French speaking women in service.
- Ensure that HTH participates, recognizes and respects the right of all Francophone women to receive service in their own language and will work diligently to ensure that all of their intake processes and procedures articulate this commitment and agree to inform women of the establishment of a meeting with a francophone counsellor.
- Ensure that the principals contained on the FLS R ef erral Agreement for Violence Against Women Agencies of Simcoe County are understood and implemented within the organization.
- Develop and provide training to enhance staff and Board capacity of the French language, and knowledge of the FLS act of Ontario. Ensure accountable French language service provision, inclusive of appropriate policies and procedures.
- Make recommendations for HTH to improve FLS policies, procedures and practices.
- Increase HTHs network within the francophone community.
- Enhance organizational capacity to evaluate FLS services and create formal feedback mechanism for women engaged at La Maison Rosewood in French services.
Team Support
Individually and in team settings, support staff to ensure programs and services are delivered in accordance with approved policies and procedures and the FLS R ef erral Agreement for Violence Against Women Agencies of Simcoe CountySupport organizational understanding of the FLS referral agreement for Violence Against Women Agencies of Simcoe CountySupport in the revision of organizational recruitment processes to support in the acquisition of French speaking candidatesSupport in the recruitment process for French speaking employeesProvide orientation and training to FLS program staff in accordance with theFLS Referral Agreement and the approved policies and procedures of HTHIdentify FLS team and individual training needs and forward recommendations.Communications and Development
Develop French language materials, for programming and promotion.Complete translation of HTH resources inclusive of website, and promotional materials into the French language.Integrate the French language into HTHs communication strategy, inclusive of HTHs social media strategy.Develop social media content in both official languagesDevelop and implement an outreach strategy in consultation with the Development Manager to raise awareness about la Maison Rosewoods French language services.Program Administration
Develop an action plan to implement HTHs FLS quality improvement planIdentify and forward recommendations for procedural amendments to the Director of Human Resources and Operations
Establish quality assurance standards and develop quality assurance mechanisms for FLS across the organizationMonitor and compile service statistics and report variances to the Director of Programs and ServicesPrepare statistical reports and monitor performance indicators of the projectStrengthen relationships with agencies of the FLS Referral Agreement, to encourage referrals according to the principals contained in the Agreement.Participate in public speaking / public education opportunities as approved by the Director of Programs and Services following the HTH policies and procedures.Other reporting as requiredTeam & Agency Participation

Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline such as communications, women and gender studies, French language and / or equivalent life / work experienceFirst Aid / CPR CertificationWHMISStrong French communication skillsKnowledge of issues and complexities reflected within the violence against women frameworkStrong proficiency in IT skills, inclusive of knowledge of Microsoft Office suiteGroup planning and facilitation skillsSolid problem solving and conflict resolution skillsExcellent organizational and time management skillsAbility to work independently and as a team memberExcellent interpersonal communication skillsOffice environment but may include non-standard workplacesStandard work week with occasional need to work evenings, shifts and overtime / flex hours to accommodate program requirementsAccess to reliable vehicle, valid drivers license and insuranceAbility to carry supplies and equipment, generally not in excess of 20 poundsAbility to sit or stand for varying periods of timeIn keeping with our commitment to represent all our communities, Indigenous women, queer-identified and racialized women are especially encouraged to apply.
