About the role

We’re looking for a Financial Specialist for our growing private placement team, called the Distribution Financial Strategy (DFS) team.

Given that the majority of IFC’s written premiums are distributed through brokerage firms in Canada, one of IFC’s objectives is to ensure a strong and sustainable brokerage network. To do so, the Distribution Financial Strategy team provides financial support to several firms of different sizes through lending and equity investments, in addition to supporting succession planning and sound firm governance. These investments, coupled with BrokerLink’s distribution income and investments in specialty wholesalers and the OnSide restoration company, generated distribution income of $467 million in 2023, of which almost 50% came from the Distribution Financial Strategy portfolio.

Your work will contribute to the governance, financial management and development of DFS’s investment portfolio by providing innovative strategies and processes tailored to the needs of the team.

What you’ll do here :

  • Oversee the implementation and execution of the portfolio’s investment governance framework.
  • Create and monitor investment and project performance reports.
  • Analyze processes and tools, make recommendations and implement improvements in the financial management of DFS’s investment portfolio.
  • Collect, review and analyze information to support transformation initiatives and optimize financial impacts.
  • Contribute to the modelling, implementation and monitoring of innovative projects for our strategic investment portfolio in the Intact network.
  • Help execute and advance DFS’s financial transactions, including business valuation, negotiation of financial arrangements and related legal documentation.
  • Monitor the private investment market for damage insurance in Quebec, Canada and elsewhere.
  • Build lasting business relationships and work closely with internal partners from other sectors, as well as external partners.
  • Support partners as needed in setting and following up on their strategic, financial and operational goals by focusing on performance, growth and profitability indicators.
  • Support team members in the execution of special projects and in their day-to-day responsibilities.

What you bring to the table :

  • A relevant CPA (CA, CMA, CGA), CFA or MBA designation, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least five years of relevant experience and a track record of successfully using your financial expertise in the areas of governance, process improvement and business development.
  • Experience in financial analysis combined with a working knowledge of legal, tax and accounting concepts.
  • Knowledge of business transactions, M&A, financing and business valuation, an asset.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite and strong financial modelling skills.
  • Ability to build sound business relationships (internal and external) using strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Initiative, a desire to learn and understand, and a strong interest in working as part of a team.
  • Good organizational skills, ability to prioritize your work and manage several files at once.
  • Entrepreneurship, creativity and critical thinking skills.
  • Customer- and results-driven, strong sense of ethics.
  • For candidates located in Quebec, bilingualism is required considering the necessity to interact on a regular basis with English-speaking colleagues across the country.
  • What we offer

Working here means you'll be empowered to be and do your best every day. Here is some of what you can expect as a permanent member of our team :
