Main R esponsibilities :

The purpose of the Transportation Safety Lead is to ensure safety compliance and proactive risk prevention related to student transportation for Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board and Conseil Scolaire Catholique MonAvenir. The role is responsible for developing strategies to foster a strong safety culture ensuring regulatory compliance delivering training and professional development conducting audits and inspections managing incident processes and monitoring performance metrics.

• Ensure compliance with student transportation regulations and board policies by overseeing the Operator Performance Monitoring System (OPMS) investigating complaints promoting safety verifying documentation and auditing routes and records.
• Coordinate investigations and reporting of incidents / collisions by attending scenes reviewing documentation and liaising with school administration to support prevention measures.
• Conduct safety site and bus audits by inspecting operator depots observing route operations and participating in Ministry of Transportation (MTO) audits to ensure compliance with legislation and contractual requirements including filing audits of operator vehicles and employees.
• Develop and promote school bus safety programs by leading initiatives supporting bus evacuations creating safety communications and collaborating with community partners.
• Support the development and implementation of transportation policies procedures contracts Ministry surveys and accessibility audits by reviewing documents advising updates ensuring compliance and preparing required reports.
• Develop training materials and deliver staff training including the ongoing development of STSCOs Transportation Safety Management System.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to support students experiencing difficulties riding the bus and ensure policy aligned strategies and positive solutions that promote safe transportation.
• Conduct bus stop rail and turn around assessments by analyzing sightlines and determining door side requirements to ensure suitable compliant pick up and drop off locations.
• Analyze and report on OPMS audit and inspection data by interpreting trends and findings to address non compliance and inform safety improvements.
• Provide functional guidance to Route Specialists by directing case resolution advising on stop placement and routing and coaching on communication and safety practices.
• Collaborate with information technology department to maintain and enhance safety related systems by providing input on system upgrades configuration and workflow integration.
• Coordinate with municipal authorities police services and community committees by organizing traffic studies safety blitzes and walk path considerations to improve student transportation safety.
• Communicate with parents / guardians and concerned citizens by interpreting policy assessing bus stop change requests and providing clear rationales and timely follow up.
• Develop and maintain safety communications by preparing website and social media content that informs students families and operators of safety expectations and updates.
• Provide field presence and after hours response by attending incidents conducting on site audits and operating in varying weather and road conditions as required.
• Provide leadership to route planning staff by providing expertise checking work quality and supporting training and development to uphold safety standards.
• Coordinate accessibility documentation and audit responses by preparing applicable policies procedures and supporting materials to meet AODA requirements.
• Other duties as assigned.
