Job description

Our division is comprised of four departments :

  • Advancement Services & Operations is the administrative and technology support unit for all Advancement activities.
  • Alumni Engagement provides programs, services, and engagement to over , York alumni worldwide.
  • Development leads efforts to promote and secure philanthropic support from alumni, donors, friends, corporations, and foundations.
  • Advancement Communications & Marketing works to promote and communicate alumni and donor messages along with direct marketing services for alumni and donor engagement.

Working in consultation with the Associate Director, Alumni Communications and staff within Division of Advancement, the incumbent writes, produces, and disseminates communications materials for the Division of Advancement to encourage a positive environment for alumni and donor relations within the University, engaging the University's growing community of alumni and donors, and fostering increased support for the University.

Education :

Diploma in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Business, or Digital Communications. Knowledge of fundraising professional standards and ethics is an asset.

Experience :

  • Writing documents such as publications and articles.
  • Producing digital and print communications pieces.
  • Creating multimedia communications (photographs, podcasts, social networking technologies).
  • Related work experience in a non-profit sector is an asset.
  • Skills :

  • Demonstrated skills including :
  • Ability to write, edit, and proofread at an advanced level in English.
  • Impeccable accuracy in grammar, spelling, and content verification.
  • Excellent research and interview skills.
  • Ability to produce a broad range of communication and marketing pieces for publication.
  • Tact, courtesy, and discretion are essential.
  • Basic videography skills and ability to use a digital SLR camera.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure of high volume and tight deadlines.
  • Ability to handle diverse communications assignments.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment.
  • Ability to develop compelling communication pieces for diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including :
  • Advanced desktop publishing (QuarkXPress, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign).
  • Advanced photo editing (Adobe Photoshop).
  • Advanced web design (HTML, CSS, Dreamweaver, WordPress).
  • Advanced word processing (MS Word).
  • Advanced presentation software (MS PowerPoint, Prezi).
  • Advanced email service providers (Mail Chimp, Exact Target, Campaign Monitor, Click Dimensions).
  • Advanced video publishing (YouTube).
  • Intermediate Google Analytics.
  • Intermediate spreadsheets (MS Excel).
  • Intermediate project management software (MS Project).
