Health & Fitness Supervisor (Full Time)

Responsibilities

  • Hire, supervise and train fitness and strength and conditioning staff and volunteers, including conducting certification observations;
  • Develop, control and evaluate the adult programs budget (including fitness programs and strength and conditioning), related statistics, and purchase equipment as required;
  • Provide direct hands‑on program delivery twice per week or as required to meet area needs;
  • Deliver YMCA / AFLCA leadership courses and support the roll‑out of new YMCA Canada courses;
  • Ensure excellent quality member service by identifying the needs and wants of members and participants as priority and respond to their concerns in an effective, timely manner;
  • Deliver the YMCA / AFLCA instructor and represent the branch on the Association’s Adult workgroup and task forces where required;
  • Perform facility Duty Manager shifts as required;
  • Support the General Manager in ensuring the YMCA has a positive presence in the local community;
  • Provide shared leadership to the Annual YMCA Campaign;
  • Use chemicals to ensure maintenance and cleanliness of the weight floor;
  • Coordinate emergency response within the branch and pool areas, including contacting emergency services and administering first aid and CPR as required;
  • Walk throughout the facility and maintain contact with all departments.
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Physical Education, Kinesiology (or related degree) and / or equivalent experience;
  • Resistance or Group Fitness Training Certification(s) (AFLCA, YMCA courses & suitable equivalents will be considered). YMCA basic certification courses are required to be completed within three months of the hiring date; YMCA Canada Trainer certification is required within 2 years of hire.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in the field, and one‑year supervisory experience;
  • CSEP, CEP or CPT certificate is preferred;
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR‑C certification within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider. Asset if certification is issued by one of the following five Canadian organizations : Canadian Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lifesaving Society, St John’s Ambulance and / or Canadian Ski Patrol;
  • Evidence of a cleared police security clearance including a vulnerable sector search;
  • Three professional references required.

Our environment captures the spirit and ambience of the mountains and reflects the image and elegance of The Fairmont Banff Springs. Our breathtaking spa is 42,000 square feet and is rated the best spa in Canada according to Spa Magazine readers.

    The Spa Guest Services & Fitness Manager is responsible for ensuring the seamless day‑to‑day operations of the Fairmont Spa’s guest‑facing operations including reception fitness / wellness programming and memberships. This role ensures exceptional guest experiences operational efficiency and team development while supporting the strategic goals of the Fairmont Spa.

    Competitive Salary : $70,000 - $72,000 gross annually based on previous experience & education

    This role is generally scheduled Tuesday‑Saturday with shifts typically running 11 : 00 am‑7 : 30 pm; hours may vary depending on business levels.

    Job Duties

  • Oversee daily operations of spa reception fitness / wellness programming and membership services to ensure smooth workflow and service excellence.
  • Monitor staffing scheduling and resource allocation to meet operational needs during peak and off‑peak periods.
  • Oversee the planning scheduling and execution of fitness and wellness classes and programs ensuring a high quality engaging experience for all guests.
  • Ensure compliance with health safety and hygiene protocols across all areas of responsibility.
  • Act as a key player in guest recovery supporting the team in resolving issues promptly and ensuring guest satisfaction is restored whenever concerns arise.
  • Identify, evaluate and cultivate relationships with new vendors to support the development of new programs and initiatives.
  • Serve in a hands‑on operational role working directly on the floor alongside team members to support daily activities and ensure smooth execution of all processes.
  • Drive sales strategies and marketing for fitness and spa and staff memberships.
  • Oversee all operations of the new staff gym including equipment maintenance cleanliness standards member access and daily facility checks to ensure a safe and supportive environment for employees.
  • Champion a culture of luxury personalized service and attention to detail in every guest interaction.
  • Manage sick calls and implement day‑to‑day operational adjustments to ensure adequate coverage and smooth departmental functioning.
  • Oversee the cleanliness maintenance and performance of all gym equipment ensuring the staff gym operates at the highest level of LQA standards through regular inspections timely reporting of issues and coordination of necessary repairs or servicing.
  • Respond to all emergency situations promptly and in accordance with established safety protocols.
  • Ensure all team members are trained in service protocols Fairmont brand standards and upselling techniques.
  • Mentor and develop supervisory team members fostering leadership growth and accountability.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations coaching sessions and departmental meetings.
  • Support recruitment onboarding and ongoing training of spa team members and fitness team members to ensure alignment with service standards and operational needs.
  • Collaborate with Boutique Manager to drive retail memberships and service revenue through strategic promotions and upselling.
  • Track and analyze operational reports guest feedback and financial results to identify areas for improvement.
  • Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of leadership experience in a luxury spa hospitality or wellness environment required.
  • Current CPR & First Aid an asset.
  • Bachelors Degree in Business Administration or Hospitality / Spa Management an asset.
  • Recognized certifications in fitness training and fitness appraisals (AFLCA or CFC certified) an asset.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate and develop teams.
  • Exceptional guest service interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent communication organization and time‑management abilities.
  • Proficiency in spa / gym management software POS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.

    Sport and Day Camp Supervisor (Full Time - 14‑month contract)

  • Responsibilities

  • Lead the team of staff working for Sports and Day Camps including hiring, training, performance management and active coaching and mentoring of staff and volunteers, including providing feedback on a regular basis.
  • Ensure high quality of programs and execution of the program design by personal, direct delivery of programs (Basketball, multi‑sport, Badminton, Soccer).
  • Build relationships with parents, participants, volunteers and staff.
  • Have a high degree of organizational and administrative skill to ensure Association procedures are adhered to as set by YMCA Calgary.
  • Volunteer recruitment (volunteer fairs, interview, train and performance manage).
  • Adhere to policies & procedures that support high standards for Health & Safety and Child Safety & Protection.
  • Provide leadership for summer and seasonal Day Camps including Summer, Winter Break, Teacher’s Convention and Spring Break.
  • Play an active role by attending regularly scheduled meetings and in‑services.
  • Develop, control and evaluate the Sport budget for your branch, related statistics, and purchase equipment as required.
  • Ensure all administration systems are in place and are adhered to as set by YMCA Calgary.
  • Collaborate with the Bookings Team to plan, organize and facilitate group bookings including school groups and birthday parties.
  • Take initiative to support program cycles for Sport & Day Camps including registration, program cancellations and wait list management.
  • Provide branch support assuming weekly Duty Manager Shifts and engage Healthy Safety Training and Duty Manager In‑Services. Assist with branch duties (including scheduled duty manager shifts, day camps, registration days, etc).
  • Assist with the annual YMCA campaign by developing relationships with program participants to raise their campaign awareness.
  • Market and promote programs.
  • Be responsible for ensuring your staff and volunteers receive department and Association specific training.
  • Effectively communicate in a variety of settings; excellent oral and written communication skills, including intermediate use of technology.
  • Ensure excellent quality member service by identifying the needs and wants of participants as priority and respond to their concerns in an effective and timely manner.
  • Facilitate leadership programs for staff and volunteers.
  • Attend branch and department special events (Healthy Kids Day, Basketball tournaments, All Sport One Day, in‑services, Stampede Breakfast, volunteer appreciation etc).
  • Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Education, Physical Education or a related degree or diploma is an asset.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working with youth.
  • Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) or Challenges Unlimited (CUI) Level 1.
  • Experience working with the Canadian Sport for Life Model including Physical Literacy.
  • Experience with day camps, supervising staff, and program development.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in coaching and sport program delivery, and one‑year supervisory experience.
  • Excellent customer service attitude.
  • Availability in the evenings and weekends to meet community and branch needs.
  • National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Fundamentals is an asset (basketball, soccer or badminton).
