Intermediate Hydropower Engineer – Structural or Mechanical
Our hydro team is seeking a colleague who enjoys understanding client needs and matching them with Stantec’s service offerings to fill the role of Intermediate Hydropower Engineer – Structural or Mechanical. This role will function as a “seller / doer” and requires experience with design, construction and / or operation of dams, spillways, intake structures, water conveyances and powerhouses, as well as associated equipment such as gates, valves, turbine‑generator units, and balance of plant. Further, experience with managing people and projects is required.

Your Key Responsibilities
Strengthen Team
- Observe and personify safety and quality culture
- With high‑level guidance but responsible for approach and execution, develop solutions to a variety of diverse engineering problems involving hydropower structures or equipment
- Perform field support during installation and construction through monitoring for quality control and consistency with the design specifications
- Prepare written communications regarding design basis, options analyses, schedule and cost estimating
- Develop design drawings and technical specifications for construction and installation services
- Motivate team to work together efficiently and mitigate team conflict
- Assist in resource management processes, recruitment, career development, succession planning, coaching and mentoring
- Understand skills, capabilities and opportunities for collaboration in Stantec’s business lines across Canada, as well as support international collaboration when required
- Understand the complexity of a given client project and match with appropriate scope of work, level of effort and staffing

Engineer with a degree in structural engineering or mechanical engineering from an accredited university. Post graduate degree in engineering or business application would be an asset.Professional designation obtained in at least one Canadian Province (P.Eng.)Minimum of 10 years’ experience with hydroelectric facilities preferably within a consulting engineering or utility environmentKnowledge of a variety of software programs used in engineering analysis and design; proficient in Microsoft Office SuiteProject management experience with demonstrated organizational and communication skills on small to medium multi‑disciplinary projectsPosition will have flexibility with working from home and / or office attendance in Dartmouth (NS). Affiliation with one of our other Atlantic offices in Fredericton (NB), Moncton (NB) or St. John’s (NL) would be an alternative. Occasional travel to client sites will be required.
Pay Transparency
In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
