Job Description

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Manager, Community Services provides leadership and support for a large team of direct service staff in a hybrid work environment.

The role is responsible for ensuring consistent, high-quality delivery of First Link® Programs and Services throughout the region.

This includes ensuring unique regional needs are identified and addressed to help achieve the goals set forth in the strategic plan.

Additionally, the Manager, Community Services has a key role in engaging with the community, including building and stewarding relationships within the Regional Health Authority, local politicians at all levels, and community partners.

In the Fraser region, there is a specific focus on connecting people in the South Asian community to culturally relevant resources, services and information so they can have the best possible quality of life at every stage of the dementia journey.

This position can be based either remotely or in the office; you are required to be onsite as needed in the Surrey Resource Centre (on average, 4-6 days per month) and the Chilliwack Resource Centre (on average, 4-5 days per year), as well as available to attend meetings and programs throughout the Fraser region.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a related capacity, preferably at a community-based social service organization, including :
  • leading and developing a team.
  • Planning and implementing program and service delivery.
  • Post-secondary degree in Gerontology, Social Work, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Understanding of dementia and issues faced by families affected by dementia.
  • Knowledge of the health care system and pathways to access services in Fraser Health authority.
  • Ability to manage a diverse and demanding workload.
  • Experience in volunteer engagement.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Flexibility to occasionally travel outside of the Fraser region (primarily to Vancouver); as well as availability for occasional evenings and / or weekends.

PLEASE NOTE : The successful candidate will be asked to provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination and will also be required to obtain clearance through the BC government online criminal record check system.

RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • As part of the Community Services Management Team, collaborate to plan and oversee programs and services that are high quality, consistent, and meet the needs of people affected by dementia.
  • Supervise and support the regional service delivery team, including coaching, recruitment, growth and development, and performance management.
  • Plan and implement regional First Link® services, including development and oversight of the annual budget, operating plan and key performance indicators.
  • Act as the Society lead within the region, responsible for positive relationships with clients, health care providers and volunteers.
  • Build and steward key relationships with community contacts, including within Fraser Health Authority, in alignment with operational and strategic goals.
  • Take a leadership role in outreach, collaboration and program development with South Asian communities, including health care providers, community organizations and people affected by dementia.
  • Have a provincial leadership role for one or more program area(s) (e.g. social programming or support groups).
  • Oversee regional resource centre operations including office operations, vendors and invoices.
  • As part of the Society’s operational leadership team, contribute to organizational planning and risk management.
  • Confident and efficient using the MS Office suite.
  • Familiarity with contact relationship management systems (client databases).
