Duties and Responsibilities
Perform vehicle maintenance and repairs to ensure vehicles are safe for our customersDiagnose and perform all phases of vehicle and equipment repair, including the repair of brakes suspensions, drive trains, transmission clutches, and other repairs accurately.Ensure work orders are completed properly and accurately. Maintain records of all maintenance work completed, including parts and supplies used.Complete preventative maintenance (PMs), safety inspections as per NSC11B, and semi-annual maintenance inspections.Perform maintenance and repairs to the Transit fleet as set forth by the policy of the Fleet Maintenance Sectionin the use of lap top computers to diagnose electrical and electronic system faultsDiagnose faults or malfunctions and confirm findings with supervisor to determine whether to repair or replace unitRepair or replace mechanical units or components using hand and power toolsTest and adjust units to specifications for proper performanceComplete reports to record problems and work performed.Work independently with minimum supervisionUndertake road call diagnosis and repairPerform other related duties as assignedSkills and Qualifications
The successful candidate must hold a valid - Truck and Coach Technician (310T) certificate and maintain it in good standing, demonstrating expertise in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical issues.Must have a valid G Driver’s License; D or C Ontario Driver’s License with a “Z” endorsement is preferred with a Driving Abstract acceptable to the city.A preferred asset would be a current Ontario Government Certificate of Qualifications Automotive Service Technician (310S) as well.Must be able to work nights, weekends, afternoons, days, and stat holidays with various off daysAdditional Skills
Experience with electronic multiplexed Heavy Duty diesel engine and automatic transmission vehicles is preferredAbility and willingness to stay current with new technologies and equipment to perform bus repairsAdditional courses in the mechanic’s trade will be an assetFamiliarity with computerized work orders preferredKnowledge of the O.H. & S. Act and Regulations, including WHMIS, and the Ministry of Transportation Highway Traffic Act is preferredWorking experience in a Unionized environment is an assetMust be able to read electrical schematicsMust have experience Must be proficient in the use of electronic diagnostic readersMust be able to able to meet reasonable time expectancy in performing assigned dutiesProvide all necessary hand tools and personal protective equipment to perform the necessary repairsHourly Rate / Salary : 44.48
