King Animal Hospital is a new, privately owned, 60,000 sq ft Equine and Small Animal Referral Hospital located on fifty acres in King City, Ontario.

The Position :
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Director of Learning & Development to lead and oversee our learning strategy and training programs to meet our organizational goals. The Director of Learning & Development will serve to ensure that our employees have the skills and competencies to provide a high level of care to our patients. The initial focus will be specifically for our Registered Veterinary Technicians and Animal Care Attendants.
Responsibilities
The Director of Learning and Development reporting to the Chief Executive Officer will serve as King Animal Hospital’s subject matter expert in the learning function, developing and implementing programs to enrich and support the skills and competencies of our team.
The successful candidate will partner with key stakeholders and subject matter experts within the organization to analyze, design, develop, deliver, and evaluate learning and development offerings for the business.
Responsibilities in leading the function include, though are not limited to :
- Strategy and Planning : Actively consult with stakeholders across the company to define learning and development priorities. Design, develop, deliver, and evaluate learning and development offerings evolve, and sustain King Animal Hospital’s training programs to address business needs, contribute to the development and retention of talent, and meet organizational needs / goals.
- Curriculum Development : Design and develop comprehensive training programs and curricula tailored for veterinary staff, focusing on both technical skills and soft skills to ensure well-rounded development.
- Program Development : Lead the creation and enhancement of training programs for new and existing staff.
- Effectively evaluate and implement the best LMS platform to deliver training programs.
- Performance Metrics & Evaluation : Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the effectiveness of training programs, with a focus on skill retention, application, and overall staff competency.
- Needs Assessment : Conduct regular assessments to identify training needs across various roles and departments and adapt programs to meet evolving needs.
- Enhance and evolve current learning and training curriculum and programs to ensure delivery, adoption and use enhancement.
- Leadership & Mentorship : Provide guidance and mentorship to trainers, department heads, and team members to cultivate a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
- Collaboration & Alignment : Work closely with HR, department managers, and executive leadership to align training strategies with overall business goals and objectives.
Qualifications :
The ideal candidate will have experience in a veterinary hospital as a DVM or RVTExperience providing training and mentorship is highly desired.Certification in adult education or equivalent is an asset,Experience in a leadership role overseeing learning curriculum design, facilitation, and training strategy, and supporting talent development and management is preferred but not required.Highly competent and experienced in learning principles and contemporary learning theory and practices, including instructional design models, interactive learning technology, training impact evaluation, and overall performance improvement practices.Demonstrated track record of working across functions and stakeholders to define needs, leverage resources, implement plans and gain commitment to action.Demonstrated history of presenting use-case scenarios and business cases for programs with rigorous and quantifiable analyses to the most senior levels of the organizationExcellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and training software is a plus.Why Join King Animal Hospital?
