Specialty Instructor - Creative Writing

The Port Moody Community Services Department is seeking a dynamic, personable, and experienced creative writing instructor to lead weekly sessions at Kyle Center.

Program Overview

Creative Writing Workshop – Ages 18 & Up

This enriching program is designed to provide critique, information, and support for both emerging and experienced writers. Writers of all genres—fiction, nonfiction, poetry, memoir, and more—are welcome. Participants may bring a sample of their writing to the first class, though it is not required.

Position Summary

The Creative Writing Instructor will lead weekly workshops that foster a supportive and constructive environment for adult writers. The instructor will guide group discussions, offer feedback, and provide writing exercises and resources to help participants improve their craft.

Key Responsibilities

• Facilitate engaging and inclusive writing workshops.
• Provide constructive critique and guidance to participants.
• Encourage creative exploration across genres.
• Prepare weekly lesson plans and writing prompts.
• Foster a respectful and collaborative classroom atmosphere.
• Track attendance and communicate with recreation staff as needed.

Please note that employment with the City of Port Moody is subject to the receipt of a satisfactory Police Information Check. Asatisfactory driver's abstract may also be required for some positions.
