The Design Engineer will oversee and design multiple complex and challenging underground and overhead infrastructure projects. This individual must be highly motivated and dedicated to work both independently as well as with direction from others.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the design of overhead and underground power delivery systems ranging from 4kV to 69kV by creating detailed scopes and estimates, performing calculations, developing design drawings following applicable utility, national or international standards and codes.
- Comply with Electrical Safety Authority (ESA), Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and all other applicable electrical standards during design process
- Take into account all applicable standards when considering the following in the design process; number of cables, cable size, cable material, cable tension, rated voltage, underground duct banks, cable chambers, transformer size and type, switches or switchgears, hydro poles, etc.
- Liaise with internal and external parties to ensure compliance requirements are met and approvals are attained for each phase of the project(s)
- Conduct site reviews and inspections (QA / QC)
- Provide field support to resolve any arising issues in preliminary design stages
- Liaise with client to support successful delivery of multiple capital projects
- Various administrative tasks to support the Engineering & Design process and functionality of design processes

A University Degree in Electrical or Civil EngineeringP. Eng certification is a must5 years experience designing underground and overhead distributions systemsAbility to design and draftKnowledge of permitting processes (highway, railroad, city, county, etc.) is highly desired.Previous experience with drafting software such Quickpole, SpidaCalc, is required.Proficient with AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS and ProjectWise softwareAdvanced knowledge of Microsoft OfficeValid class ‘G’ license
