Bird Heavy Civil is recruiting a Senior Estimator to join our team. If you are an experienced and qualified Estimator, seize this opportunity to work on projects that matter to you and to the communities in which we work

Qualification :

The candidate should possess the following knowledge and skills :

  • A degree / diploma in Civil Engineering, Civil Technology, or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience working in a heavy civil construction environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of earthworks, concrete, mining, and a working knowledge of heavy equipment.
  • Thorough understanding of preparing estimates and budgets.
  • Experience in contract and union labour agreements.
  • Excellent administrative techniques including exceptional organizational, communication and people management skills.
  • Strong computer skills are necessary, including an excellent knowledge of scheduling software such as Primavera, Microsoft Project as well as estimating software such as InEight, Bid2win, HCSS, etc.
  • Adequate knowledge in Microsoft PowerPoint and Word and the ability to prepare professional proposals and presentations.
  • Experience in working in a unionized environment and within terms of a collective agreement(s).
  • Knowledge of standard Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) requirements and practices in the construction industry.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Proficiency in both English and French considered an asset.

Duties :

The duties associated with this position may include but are not limited to :

  • Provide support to ongoing project(s) to ensure the project(s) goals are realized.
  • Review and / or calculate / estimate quantity take-offs, develop material price lists, labour costs, equipment, etc.
  • Review project and contract specifications.
  • Review construction drawings and specifications to determine layouts of structures, systems and material requirements.
  • Review and / or prepare scopes of work and solicit pricing from suppliers.
  • Review and / or prepare tender documents, proposals, schedules, and estimates.
  • Review historical data such as purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc.
  • Compile summary reports for the purpose of developing guidelines and data for future work and estimates.
  • Assist in proposal presentations and reviews with clients.
  • Maintain estimating files for back-up purposes.
  • Assist in the monitoring of budgets and estimates against actual cost data.
  • Support and promote the company’s Quality Assurance Program.
  • Other duties as required.
