The Team
The Youth Forensic Psychiatric Services Victoria Clinic team is a group of experienced professionals including administrative staff clinicians and testing assistants. This established team is part of a larger provincial service and collaborates with social workers psychologists psychiatrists nurses and contractors to provide direct client care. We value the supportive culture within our team making a significant impact on the mental health and well-being of youth in our community.

The Role
The Psychiatric Social Worker plays a key role in a team that supports young people in the justice system. They provide mental health assessments and treatment services including individual group and family counseling. Through a multi-disciplinary approach the objective is to jointly enhance the capacity of communities to plan and care for challenging youth through a closer to home focus. This work is critical in promoting equity diversity and inclusion by addressing the unique needs of each young person.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Masters in Counselling Social Work Educational Counselling Clinical Counselling Clinical Psychology or Child and Youth Care or comparable graduate degree at the Masters level in a similar subject may be considered. NOTE:Successful MSW prepared candidates are required to seek and obtain clinical registration with the British Columbia College of Social Workers (BCCSW) within 6 months of having completed the required 3000 hours of supervised clinical practice.
    • NOTE:If your degree was obtained outside of Canada you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of relevant clinical experience working within an adolescent mental health environment and providing a wide range of outpatient-oriented assessment and treatment services.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 BC Drivers license with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).


Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Two years or more relevant clinical experience working within an adolescent mental health environment and providing a wide range of outpatient-oriented assessment and treatment services.
  • Recent experience working in a forensic setting or with a forensic population.
  • Experience working in a psychiatric or mental health unit.
  • Applicants who self-identify as First Nations Métis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.

About this Position:

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
