Job Duties Job Duties 1. Prepare materials for scheduled lab exercises and assist Instructors in conducting lab exercises.
2. Ensure security of labs, stores and equipment.
3. Maintain system of safe disposal of materials.
4. Use inventory management program to keep records of consumption and purchase of supplies.
5. Arrange for purchase of materials for labs.
6. Ensure smooth operation of water, gas, vacuum and ventilation, with the assistance of Facilities.
7. Conduct regular performance checks / minor repairs of lab equipment. Arrange for major repair of equipment if required.
8. Perform periodic calibration of equipment.
9. Prepare documentation concerning general lab operations and procedures.
10. Devise and follow quality assurance procedures for workplace tasks. QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE Specific Accountabilities Duties Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities (QSA) 1. Diploma in a related discipline such as Environmental, Water Resources or Chemistry, OR a degree in chemistry.
2. Eligible for certification as a P. Tech. with TPS.
3. Several years of experience with the maintenance and operation of chemical laboratory equipment.
4. Knowledge of laboratory safety, emergency response, and dangerous goods disposal requirement and techniques.
5. Knowledge of suppliers of equipment and supplies.
6. Ability to work cooperatively with students, staff and supervisors.
7. Effective communication skills (oral and written).
8. Effective interpersonal skills.
