About the Role :
Reporting to the Manager of Engineering and Construction, the Technician Operator II - GIS is responsible for the preparation of engineering base plans by reconciling information gathered from field surveys, in-house records and utilities and the delivery of these plans to the Design and Construction division and outside Consultants in a digital format that adheres to the Niagara GIS / CAD Standards.
What You'll be Doing :
- Compile in-house and external agency data and current field work to create engineering base plans; making decisions on accuracy and resolving any conflict between the various data sources.
- Conduct field inspections to confirm that the base plans accurately reflect the existing site conditions.
- Conduct thorough searches of various engineering record sources to provide historical information required to make sound engineering decisions on changes and improvements to the City's infrastructure.
- Liaise with survey crews; provide direction on the gathering of additional field observations assist in identifying errors or missing field observations.
- Generate work orders using Work Manager with delivery dates for field work corresponding with the Design and Construction schedule.
- Process field data to compute volumes and quantities for the reporting of sand and salt usage under the corporate salt management plan.
- Provide the public and locators with details on the location of underground site servicing based on the search and interpretation of in-house records.
What's Required :
A college diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey / Geomatics or related discipline.Two (2) years recent experience in a related role with demonstrated experience in the preparation of engineering base plans using Civil3d for the design of new or replacement of Municipal Infrastructure including but not limited to water, sewer and roads.Knowledge of Civil Engineering standards and content required to prepare accurate and complete drawings and documents.Experience with AutoCAD, Civil3D, Map3D and other related Autodesk products.Knowledge of various scanners, printers and other reprographic tools and techniques.Professional, proven customer service with well-developed interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.The ability to work in a team environment, liaise with key external and internal stakeholders at all levels of the organization and to function effectively with minimal supervision.Attention to detail with proven research, data analysis and report writing skills.A valid Ontario driver’s licence, Class “G#J-18808-Ljbffr
