Job description

Summary

Our GFL Cranbrook team is in search of a skilled Operator with experience in operating a wide range of trucks. The operator will also be expected to actively engage in the physical aspects of the role, which includes supporting the team as a Swamper. The Operator will be responsible for operating various vehicles, including Hydrovacs, Vacuum Trucks, Box Trucks, and Oil Trucks, based on client needs. This position involves daily-changing responsibilities, making it a challenging yet exciting role. The successful candidate must exhibit a high degree of professionalism, exceptional customer service skills, and a strong willingness to work collaboratively as part of a team.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Operate and stages various units at client sites; units include : Combo Vac, Vacuum Truck (liquid and turbo), Water Truck and Hydrovac

Safely load, transport and unload various waste products

Perform labourer duties as assigned, including the use of hand tools and operating power equipment and conduct yard checks

Complete all required transport documents including pre and post trip inspections

Understand and complete required documentation such as waste manifests, bills of lading etc.

Maintain electronic log book and corresponding paperwork

Safe operations and maintenance of all equipment and vehicles

Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation including D.O.T regulations

Troubleshoot maintenance issues while on job sites

Ensure all equipment and tooling is cleaned and stored in appropriate unit, case, or container before it is returned to the shop

Represent GFL professionally at all times and ensure a positive customer experience

Follow site specific safety requirements

Participate in all team and safety meetings

Timely reporting of work-related accidents / incidents to supervisor

Perform other duties as required

Requirements

Class 3 or 1A (or equivalent) driver’s license with a clean drivers’ abstract

Previous operating experience in Combo Vac, Vacuum Truck, Water Truck and / or Hydrovac is a definite asset

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to work with minimal supervision in a team and safety focused environment

Willingness to take direction and work effectively in stressful situations

Ability to multitask and adapt to new working environments

Maintain Health and Safety as the number one goal by following policies and processes

Ability to safely and efficiently perform all duties
