Job Summary
Brock Sports & Recreation is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic individual who will serve as a Student Commentator for the 2024-2025 school year. This individual will primarily be responsible for providing coverage and analysis of Brock varsity sporting events for the broadcasting channels of the Brock Badgers. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in bringing sports to a wide audience, providing viewers with play-by-play commentary, analysis, and interviews with athletes, coaches, and other sports experts.
Duties may include, but not limited to :
Provide insightful and engaging commentary during basketball, hockey, and / or volleyball games, offering in-depth analysis of key plays, player performances, and overall team strategies.
Conduct thorough research on the teams, players, and recent performances before each game, ensuring a well-informed and up-to-date commentary that adds value to the audience's understanding of the sports.
Effectively communicate with co-commentators, production teams, and directors to coordinate a seamless and cohesive commentary flow during live broadcasts.
Demonstrate the ability to adapt commentary style to the pace and nature of the game, maintaining a balance between excitement, analysis, and storytelling for basketball, hockey, and / or volleyball broadcasts.
Stay flexible and responsive to unexpected events during the games, such as last-minute player substitutions, game-changing plays, or unforeseen circumstances, and adjust commentary accordingly.
Qualifications
Current Brock University student for the 2024 / 2025 academic year.
Proficient understanding of the sports of basketball, volleyball and / or hockey including the rules, strategies, and history of each game.
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
Passion for intercollegiate athletics with a high level of energy, optimism, and flexibility.
Weeknight and weekend availability as required.
