Job description

Job Title : Leadership Program Coordinator

Department : Community Development

Reports To : Manager Social Planning and Research / Team Lead Community Planner Research

Hours of Work : 8 : 30 a.m. to 4 : 30 p.m.

Location : CDCD sites - Ajax / Oshawa

Job purpose

Under the direction of the Manager Social Planning and Research and the Team Lead Community Planner Research the Leadership Program Coordinator will be responsible for the implementation of the Newcomer Women Leadership Program and coordination of the affiliated Leadership Durham professional development program.

The Leadership Programs provide participants with opportunities to develop their communication leadership and self-advocacy skills while boosting their confidence. Participants are invited to provide support to and receive support from their peers and share the successes and challenges of their journey with their peers and the program coordinator.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Using client-centered anti-oppression anti-racism trauma-informed gender-based analysis plus and strength-based approaches build relationships and establish rapport with existing community partners vendors staff and volunteers.
  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy protection measures for all community partners vendors staff volunteers and clients
  • Promote a high-functioning teamwork environment that is inclusive harmonious cooperative efficient and productive.
  • Participate in promoting a positive workplace culture through agency committee membership and departmental activities
  • Create and execute project work plans and revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements of programs within the positions portfolio.

Durham Community Leadership Program

  • Facilitate group sessions in English for eligible clients that provide participants with access to information and resources support and reassurance and opportunities to become more involved in their community and strengthen their life and leadership skills.
  • Provide hands-on activities and expert-led sessions that will empower women and assist them to develop a leadership mindset.
  • Enhance their public speaking and storytelling skills.
  • Support women to develop advocacy skills empowering them to voice their needs and influence change within their communities.
  • Equip women with the confidence and skills to take on leadership roles within their families and communities.
  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy protection measures for all participants community partners and expert speakers.
  • Liaise with other services including mental health housing and community connections that could support the participants leadership experience
  • Organize the annual Women in Leadership forum
  • Plan and implement a professional interactive program.
  • Establish and coordinate a volunteer steering committee for curriculum development
  • Establish relationships with public private and non-profit stakeholders to enhance leadership capacity in Durham Region.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations and scope of the Durham Community Leadership program.
  • Engage session facilitators that have expertise in leadership development.
  • Plan and implement events (for example an event to launch the program).
  • Support website development and social media posting for the Leadership program in close coordination with CDCD Marketing team.
  • Administration

  • Create and execute project work plans and revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements of programs within the positions portfolio.
  • Maintain accurate client and volunteer records using program database and iCARE (The Immigration Contribution Agreement Reporting Environment) system reporting platform.
  • Maintain an organized system of tracking monitoring and prioritizing tasks and projects.
  • Develop and maintain statistical reports on a monthly quarterly and yearly basis.
  • Adhere to all agency policies procedures and directives as well as all other applicable legislation.
  • R espond to all program inquiries.
  • Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Social Services or related area of study
  • Proficient in the use of computer programs for : Word Processing; Databases; Spread sheets; E-mail; Internet; Power Point
  • Strong clear and professional communication skills verbal written presentation and facilitative.
  • Proven experience working with newcomers professionals victims of trauma / torture war and refugees
  • Demonstrated ability to advocate liaise and mediate
  • Ability to make presentations conduct workshops and make cold calls to potential clients / facilitators
  • Ability to speak another language is an asset
  • Strategic analytical problem solving conflict resolution and organizational skills with attention to detail
  • A strong team player with the ability to work collaboratively or independently to achieve goals
  • Self-directed with an ability to organize plan prioritize and multitask
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Additional Requirements

  • Ability to work out of an office environment and will be required to lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Prolonged sitting is required.
  • Flexible in the case of attending evening and / or weekend meetings and events as required.
  • Comfortable with supporting newcomer women who may be experiencing varying degrees of distress related to their settlement journey.
  • A valid Ontario drivers license (Class G) use of a vehicle and insurance with the ability to work in a variety of settings
  • The successful candidate must provide an acceptable Vulnerable Sector Screening and certificate demonstrating proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 prior to commencing employment.
