Development Coordinator

Overview :

The Gimli International Film Festival (GIFF) is seeking a Development Coordinator to help support our outreach initiatives as the festival embarks on this milestone year, its 25th anniversary. This role will report into the Executive Director with a primary focus on connecting people in the broader community with the work that we offer through our Bursary Program and Industry Summit.

About GIFF :

The Gimli International Film Festival is Manitoba’s premier film festival, and the largest rural film festival in Canada. We show the best contemporary cinema from Manitoba, Canada and around the world. This includes narrative and documentary, live action and animated, in short, mid-length, and feature film formats from across the globe. Our festival takes pl2ace annually on the last weekend of July (from Wednesday evening to Sunday night) in the lakeside community of Gimli. We screen over 100 films and provide our patrons with post-screening Q&As, industry sessions, and networking events, all while enjoying the natural beauty of the Interlake region. We value our artists and are committed to paying standard rate screening fees as outlined in the IMAA Fee Schedule.

Ideal Candidate :

Are you our ideal candidate? We are looking for an individual who possesses :

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A passion for film and the broader arts.
  • Ability to organize and maintain a calendar of outreach activities.
  • A record as a proven multitasker capable of juggling numerous and distinct priorities and relationships with grace under pressure in a variety of circumstances.
  • Great organizational skills and ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Proven ability to support the organization’s goals and priorities.

Primary Responsibilities :

  • Assist with the GIFF Outreach Program, working with partner organizations to provide festival passes to underrepresented communities; track participants and coordinate shuttle transportation if needed.
  • Coordinate the Young Filmmakers Program (YFP), working with teachers, students and other stakeholders, which will see students and their chaperones attend the festival for a screening of student films, and other events scheduled.
  • Host YFP members on the in-person screening day by providing them with information and guidance on festival events and procedures, ensuring the safe and efficient facilitation of the excursion.
  • Work diligently with the Sponsorship & Hospitality Coordinator to develop the YFP dinner.
  • Visit local businesses alongside the Communications Coordinator to inform them of GIFF’s 2025 activities, asking to put posters, and distribute and other promotional material.
  • Organize the “Industry Sessions” with oversight from the Executive Director. This will include (and not limited to) :
  • Developing schedule for panel discussions, talks
  • Organizing transportation for speakers, zoom links for international participants (with help from the Technical Coordinator).
  • Promotion of event
  • Day of resource for patrons participating
  • Assisting in the overseeing of volunteers stationed at the event.
  • Creating and sharing surveys post event.
  • Qualifications :

  • Minimum of 2 years in a similar role; Working towards or possessing a degree or diploma in communications / marketing, arts / recreation, social work, events management or business / administrative management
  • Experience working in the Arts & Culture sector is an important asset
  • Familiarity with various social media platforms like Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, etc.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office suite and related software.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Experience and ability to multi-task, exhibit consistent follow-through and work independently.
  • Understanding of local and global filmmaking community and industry; understanding of social trends.
  • Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
  • Must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
  • Must be able to lift 50-pound objects throughout the course of a shift
